Roland DeVita Obituary

Roland Charles DeVita Boca Raton, Fl - Roland Charles DeVita, 88, of Boca Raton, Florida, formerly of Mount Pleasant, SC, and widower of Laura Reigle DeVita entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 3, 2021. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021, in Stella Maris Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street at 1:00 pm. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be held in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 10, 2021, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, from 10:00 am until noon. Roland was born May 13, 1933, in Waterbury, Connecticut, son of late Carmine DeVita and Catherine Guglielmino DeVita. He was a retired partner and vice president from Penn Life Insurance Company of Dayton, Ohio. He was an active member Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church and taught religion classes at CCD. Roland was a member of the Rotary Club Mt. Pleasant, Exchange Club - Isle of Palms, and 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Roland was a principled patriarch. His life story embodies the "American dream" in which he emerges as a personal and professional success. His charisma and humor truly lit up each and every room. Popa your presence with me for 3 and half years has thought me so very much. First of all life is so very precious. You wanted to live and was so happy to be your chair leader. You taught me patience in a breath. That was so difficult at times. You taught me to have hope and promise. You taught me how to be strong. I´m so very blessed to have had you in my life. I promised you would never see a nursing home. I kept my promise. May Gods light shine on you now. You were a wonderful father. And I will always miss you. Life is so very precious. I love you Popa.

Uncle Roland,
God looked around his garden and found an empty place. He than looked down upon Earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. With the help of his angels they flew you to a heavenly place.

Grandpa, There are not enough words to express just how great of a person you were. I just wanted you to know that I love you and I appreciate all that you have done to show me the ways of life. You were a great teacher mentor listener and motivator. You were so knowledgeable in so many areas. You gave me lessons for free that would take some people a lifetime to learn. You showed me how to budget my finances, how to plan for my future. You showed me how hard work dedication and determination can lead a person to be successful. You showed me that in order to walk through life with your head held high you must be honest hard working and consistent. You taught me that punctuality is a must. I learned by watching you and grandma that through devotion loyalty communication prayer and honesty that two people can accomplish anything in life no matter how difficult the situation. I know I was young and stubborn and rebellious but just know that I did listen to what you were teaching me and though it seems as if it has taken forever for me to apply it, I never forgot. And I must tell you that I do greatly appreciate all that you have done for me. And I will never forget how wonderful you were to me, and my grandmother. You taught me the true definition of integrity and I love you for that.

Roland was a very active and enthusiastic member of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club. Roland never waited to be asked to help; he dove in and did whatever he could to assist our community. Roland was awarded the Service Above Self award while in the Club, which was richly deserved. Mount Pleasant is a much better place for having had Roland with us, and our world will miss having him!

To the Family,I go back many years when I first heard that voice on a long distance phone interview for the loan application for the purchase of the home on IOP.That is how our friendship started.Laura and Roland first met in the law office of Nick Sottile. As a mortgage bankers I never had to attend a closing however it was going to be my only time to meet this couple.I got to Nick's office and sat in the waiting room for the DeVita's to appear. Not knowing each other I sat waiting for Roland to speak. He introduced himself and I just waited before we got into conversation. He asked me if I was here for a closing and I sad yes.The DeVita closing. Then Roland heard my voice and said"Jim Owens".Yes I said and our friendship grew from there. Many wonderful times and meals, tennis games and long walks on the beach.A friendship I will always remember.Rest in Peace my friend. 843-696-0879
