Robert Dodenhoff Obituary

Robert Blair Dodenhoff ISLE OF PALMS - On May 26, Robert Blair Dodenhoff died at his home on the Isle of Palms, South Carolina. He was 57. Having been diagnosed with a very rare cancer two years before, Bob tackled his illness head-on, with the same determination and intensity of focus with which he had lived his life. After Bob's graduation from Rochester Institute of Technology with high honors, he began a career in radio-his grand passion since childhood. A born entrepreneur, he eventually purchased radio stations throughout the east. He later co-founded an internet seafood company, founded a nonprofit internet site for at-risk youth, and capped his entrepreneurial career with the purchase of American Drug Testing and OvernightDNA, both based in Charleston. A long-term resident of both Charleston and Murray Isle, NY, Bob loved water and loved islands. The outdoors offered him great joy, and he frequently took his sons backpacking and camping; he also shared with them his love of boating, skiing, traveling, and golf. Additionally, he was an accomplished rock drummer, an amateur cartoonist, and a published author. Bob was a devoted father and is survived by his three sons, Conner, Brett, and Alex. He also is survived by his brother, Bill; his sisters, Deborah Purcell and Susan (Howie) Charbonneau; his nephews, Sam and Charlie Charbonneau and Will Dragovic; his niece, Rachael Charbonneau; and his former wife, Terri Dodenhoff. A memorial service will be held at Seacoast Church in Mount Pleasant on Saturday, May 31 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to cancer research and cures. Dear Dodenhoff Family,This is a difficult time and I am sending love and prayers to you. Bob and I were very close in college and this quite a shock. It has been over 10 years since we have talked and today when happen to think of him I find that he is gone. Such a loss of a dynamic and inspirational soul. Even though we had gone different ways, he was always there to help. When I was teaching at Miami University, he assisted in developing a case study based on his on line seafood business. The students saw first hand his entrepreneurial spirit and natural business skill.

He will be missed.

Love, Ellen Schickler Young

He never saw the glass of his life as half full, or half empty. It was always overflowing, and he affirmed everyone without tryng. It was the nature of his heart. He embodied love, kindness, grace, and so much more! The list is endless. No matter where he was in the world, no matter how dark his worries may have been in the nights, his soul will always live on in others, especially within his family. I hope that gives you a fountain of strengh, hope, and comfort. Bob, as I called him, was my 1st Boyfriend, back in Rochester, NY. We must have been about Alex's age, possibly younger. We reconnected (4) short years ago, and he allowed me to share, and work through some difficult issues within myself. We also shared about his cancer. He lives in the heart of many, those you may not even know, who's being he has touched in this lifetime, and he will never, ever, depart from the center of my heart. I send healing energy & many prayers, to all of you that are suffering along with me, in this unfortunate loss. I will never forget you either Bob. Rest in Peace, my Dear Friend.

Bob, you were such an inspiration to me. You helped me grow into the person I am today by modeling the hard work you put into things you were passionate about. You always had words of wisdom for me, some that I carry with me daily close to me heart. I know you are at peace now & you earned those wings. You put up a good fight but obviously God has bigger plans for you now. You will be missed dearly by many. I for one will never forget you & all the imprints you left in my life. God Bless Dodenoff Family.
