Richard Elliott Obituary

ELLIOTT, Richard ESTILL - Mr. Richard Elliott, 84, of 214 Wyman Blvd., in Estill, died Tuesday evening at his residence. Mr. Elliott was born in Jefferson, SC on June 5, 1921; a son of the late Roderick Miles and Pauline Morrison Elliott. He was the founder and owner of Elliott Sawmilling Company in Estill, which he founded on June 5, 1946. He was a Naval Aviator on the Aircraft Carrier "Bunker Hill" during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He received numerous commendations for bravery including the honor of receiving two Distinguished Flying Crosses. He was a Mason, founder and Trustee of Patrick Henry Academy in Estill, and was a member and Elder of the Estill Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Alice Hilliard Elliott of the home; three sons, Richard Hepburn Elliott, Jr. and Miles McCarten Elliott, Jr., Erin Alice King, and Roderick Nash Elliott; great-grandchildren, Thomas Elliott Queen, and Katharin Olivia Queen. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., Friday in the Lawtonville Cemetery in Estill, conducted by Dr. Frank Sells, and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton. Friends may call at the Chapel in Hampton located at 300 Mulberry Street from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday morning prior to services.
