Richard Binns Obituary

Richard "Rick" William Binns, Sr. LEXINGTON, SC - Richard "Rick" William Binns, Sr., 75, after a long battle with lung disease, left this earthly life on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 to join our Heavenly Father and rest in His eternal home. "Rick" was born in his beloved Charleston, South Carolina, on September 11, 1936. In 1954 he graduated from Rivers High School. After serving four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, Rick attended Furman University and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1960. In 2003 he retired after a successful career in sales with Johnson & Johnson Dental, Healthco International, and Sullivan Schein Dental. He was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church and loved his church, his family, and his friends. He was a devoted, loving, caring, husband and father. Bass fishing allowed him many hours of pleasant relaxation and was his favorite past time. He loved Gamecock sports and was a loyal fan. The USC Gamecocks made him very proud. He is survived by his wife, Joan Raynor Binns of 51 years; his children, Karen (Tim) Brown of Shelby, NC; Rick (Cheryl) Binns, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; Davida (Jim) Blevins of Lexington, SC; eight grandchildren: Cody, Jake, and Landon Brown; Davi (Matt) Hudson; Alex, Anderson, Anna-Marie, and Avery Blevins; one great-grandchild, Reagan Hudson; a step sister, Myra Brooks of Edenton, NC, and a step brother, Russell Snider, of Beach Island, SC. Rick is predeceased by his mother, Vivian Emma Snider; step brothers, John, Clarence, and Ross Snider; step sisters, Clara Meares and Julia Coverdale. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Christopher Marshall, Carolina Pulmonary staff, Dr. William Crigler for their long and dedicated care, and to the Agape SeniorCare Hospice, West Columbia, SC, for their compassionate, loving care. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel with interment in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the American Lung Association, Midlands, SC, 1817 Gadsden Street, Columbia, SC 29201. www.caughmanharmanfuneralhome.net Visit our guestbook at www.postandcourier.com/ deaths

I am so sorry to hear about Rick. He called on my office for many years in Myrtle Beach. It was always fun to talk fishing and the gamecocks with him. He was a genuinely nice guy and a friend.
