Well, I didn't think that 2016 could get any worse, but today it did. A Christmas card was returned to us and in searching to find a new address for our friend Rhett we instead turned up her obituary. How truly said it was to learn of her passing. Rhett was a colleague of my father's and I met her as a teenager. She was such a hue personality and I sat at her feet many a nights listening to her great stories all delivered in that amazing accent of hers. The memories are too numerous to recount here but suffice to say that she had an impact on every life she touched and mine especially. As the great Dr. Seuss said "Don't cry because its over. Smile because it happened." Today I will smile as I lift a glass of Scotch in remembrance of our dear Rhett.

I recalled lots of memories on my facebook page and invite anyone to read it. It is listed under my name, Phil Hayes. It starts, "It's been a long day without you, my friend, and I'll tell you all about it when I see you again."

Beautiful and Amazing Rhett... Some of my most favorite memories have you in them and for that I am so very thankful. Anyone who knew you was lucky enough! Friends who came to visit years ago, still talk about you and how loving and fun you were! Your parties were the absolute best and just trying to tell someone about Sheep Sheering or Tossing a Peppy or Tractor Polo just doesn't do them justice. I pray you are at peace and no longer in pain. I still don't drink scotch, but will drink a toast or two to you! xo

We lost a wonderfully unique and authentic friend this week. Dear Rhett lived life 'large'. Those who knew her understand completely. Bob and I were recalling fond memories last night. I have so many, and loved sharing stories of long ago with Bob and again today with dear friend Evelyn. Years ago Rhett gave me the cherished nickname Nanoo. She still called me that and Nanoo is what my grandchildren call me today. Last night I raised a glass or two to dear Rhett..scotch, of course. Yes, the cheap stuff! I choose to believe she has gone ahead to wait for us. She, of course, is planning our next big party! Until then, I will miss her. Cheers, my friend!

I had the joy of knowing Rhett for 20 Years. She was a beautiful woman - inside and out - and like no one I have ever known. She was a wonderful friend. I will always have fond memories of visiting her home and having some of the best times of my life. I wll miss her very much.

My deepest sympathy to all of her family. May the Lord comfort you as only He can.

You, my dear, have been one unique, creative and delightful person. I will not forget the night we met at your house and how very warm toward me and fun-loving you were. Nancy and I cherish the photo you took of us. I will always think of you at Christmas when I display the intricate and unique stocking you made for me. Thanks also for making it large enough to hold lots of goodies. May God be with you and grant you eternal peace. With much love, Boboo

So sorry to see about Rhett. She was so much fun and so alive. Had not seen her in years - wish I'd known where she was as we go through Walterboro all the time and could have gotten together.
