I've had the pleasure of being Ralph's neighbor for the last eight years. It's easy to remember when he was in better health because he always had such a cheerful face. It got harder for him to be cheerful, but he was still quick to smile and never missed a chance to ask about how my wife and I were doing, even when his own pain was obvious. I guess if one word applied to him most, I would say he was a gentleman. He was just what his wife needed, a gifted man with a brilliant mind and an engaging personality that would make him stand out in a crowd. I know he will be greatly missed.
