Pretto Cuttino Obituary

Pretto Brunson Cuttino SUMTER - Pretto Brunson Cuttino, 85, of Covenant Place, widow of Edwin Cotesworth Cuttino, died Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Tuomey Healthcare System. Born on March 20, 1924 in Sumter, she was the only daughter of the late Judson Pringle Brunson and Pretto Halford Brunson. Mrs. Cuttino was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, circle chairman, church historian, and vice-chairman of Harmony Presbytery. She was presented with an Honorary Life Membership in the Presbytery Women Association 1995. She was a 1941 graduate of Edmunds High School and a 1945 graduate of Converse College. At Converse, she was president of the freshman and sophomore classes, House President of Cudd Dormitory, editor of the college annual, member of Who's Who and the Order of the Gavel. She married Edwin Cotesworth Cuttino on March 20, 1947, who died December, 2001. She retired after 30 years of service in the schools of Sumter. Among them were Lemira, Bethel, Hillcrest, Washington Street and Alice Drive Elementary. She was a member and a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international association of outstanding teachers. She was active in many phases of activities in Sumter, some of which were serving as chairman of the Sumter Gallery of Art, chairman of the Wateree District Advisory Board of Health, chairman of the Sumter County Election Commission and chairman of Sumter Volunteers and was designated "Volunteer Extraordinaire". She was a member of the Friends of the Library, Friends of Swan Lake and the Sumter County Museum. She was a member of past president of the Drama Club, a member of the Women's Literary Club, a sustaining member and past president of the Junior Welfare League, a member of the Cotillion Club, Sumter Assembly and the Sunset Country Club. Surviving are three sons, Edwin C.Cuttino, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Mt. Pleasant, Dr. Judson P. Cuttino, and wife Debby of Savannah, GA., and Thomas Allen Cuttino and wife Cathy Jo of Sumter; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Kirkwood Otey. Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Mark Durrett and Rev. Janie McLween-Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Tripp Cuttino, Judson Cuttino, Allen Cuttino, Jeremie Cuttino, Stephen Marshall and Jason Marshall. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Sam Hunter, Dr. Charles "Pap" Propst, Randy Bradham, Charles "Flop" Shaw, Ramon Schwartz, Milton Schwartz, Richard Mey, Phil Waynick, Jack Gibson, Lynn Talley, Phil Palmer, John Moses, Bob Graham, Jimmy Noonan, Earle Rowland, Johnny Lee, Dr. Hugh Stoddard, Dr. Mark Crabbe, Dr. Henry Moses, Dr. Ted Williams, Dr. James Cahill, Dr. David Brown, Dr. William (Buddy) Noonan, and Dr. Ed McLeod. The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Thomas Cuttino, 1080 Waterway Dr. The family would like to express a special thanks to the nursing staff at Covenant Place Assisted Living I and to the nursing staff at Tuomey Healthcare System, especially to Lyn McCoy, Margaret Edwards, Nikole Jenkins, Kassandra Davis and Gwen Baker.
