With so many memories of Aunt Pauine, I could write volumes, but one episode stands out. At the first Spoleto Festival, I took her and Aunt Victoria to one of the chamber music concerts at the Dock Street Theater. Aunt Pauline was a bit concerned that she wasn't going to 'get it'. I advised her not to worry about what she didn't 'get', but to just enjoy what she did get, and it would only get better. Teacher that she was, she knew that learning never stops. Every time I saw her after that, she told me that she never forgot that little tip, and it had made a difference.
The last time I saw her was in Georgetown at Torie's wedding, time melted away, and we caught up, re-connected, and tied up so many loose ends. What a blessing to be be able to say goodbye and give love to this lady who meant so much to me. She truly was lit from within. She stays with me every day.

Miss Pauline taught all of us 2nd grade at Cathedral school. We are so blessed to have had her guidance as children. She had a heart of gold and the purest soul I have ever known.I will miss her but I know she will get her true reward in Heaven. Her heavenly salvation was always first and foremost in her life. She raised 2 wonderful children and she raised everybody's children she taught in Charleston. Memories of enjoying sweet tea and special treats from Stella's kitchen at Montague & Ashley during special quiet times (while she graded papers) in the afternoon listening to the radio waiting on Mr. Vincent to come home. Now it is her turn to go home to Mr. Vincent. Love you with all my heart! Martha Brouthers

Mrs. Sottile made my day calling me over to chat on the porch. "you're in such a hurry!" she said, and I sat and listened instead. I am so glad I did. She will be remembered with joy as someone who loved others and gave of herself daily. She was a rarity and a beautiful example.
