Paul Kaplowitz Obituary

Paul Kaplowitz N. CHARLESTON - Paul Michael Kaplowitz died peacefully at home on October 20, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on June 22, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York. He was a beloved husband of Phyllis Kaplowitz for 30 years, and a devoted father, and grandfather. He was a custom home builder for over 40 years. He first began working in the lowcountry for Richard C. Dobson, and David Weekley Homes. Ultimately, opening his own company, K&M Custom Homes, building in many cities throughout the Charleston area. Every other weekend, after his retirement, you would find him at his booth at the Charleston Farmers Market (12 years), selling his beautiful hand-turned bowls. He was a master craftsman, and helped found the Charlestowne Woodturners Association, and served as president, director, and advisor, for over 25 years. He believed in civil rights, and the dignity and worth of all persons. He participated in civil rights demonstrations,at the University of New Haven, also in the Freedom Rides, also known as the Mississippi Project of 1964. Paul was a lifelong learner, fisherman, gardner and home chef. He had a great appreciation for the natural world, and raised bees, chickens, rabbits, and English Budgerigars. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, and his children, Nathaniel Kaplowitz, his wife Kimberly, and grandchildren, Payton and Rory. Also, his daughter, Molly Koren, her husband, Yuval, and grandchildren, Gabriel and Isaac. He donated his body to The Medical University of South Carolina. Any donations to the Heart Association, Stroke Research would be greatly appreciated.

Paul was a very special person with many talents and interests. He cared deeply about people, animals and nature. He and his wife, Phyllis, enjoyed many happy times together. We will greatly miss Paul. Our love and condolences to Phyllis.
