Mr. Robert Gene "Bobby" Colley, 84, of
Moncks Corner, SC, the former owner and operator of Colley Construction Company, passed away Tuesday morning in a Charleston hospital.
Born July 9, 1941, in
Landrum, SC, he was the son of Vernon Webb Colley and Emma Beatrice Price Colley. Known affectionately throughout the community as Mr. Bobby, he built a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a love for the simple joys that made each day meaningful.
He attended Chaparral Baptist Church with his wife. Mr. Bobby was a lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, both attending races with his wife in the "Bus" and watching them faithfully on television. He especially enjoyed cheering for the Ford drivers, with Mark Martin and Bill Elliott among his favorites. In his younger years, he was a former drag car racer, a passion that reflected his love of speed, engines, and the thrill of competition.
He enjoyed a good game of golf until he was no longer able, and he spent countless hours in his shop working on various projects. His hands were rarely still, and he took pride in creating, fixing, and tinkering. Traveling with his wife brought him great joy, and one of their most memorable adventures was a day trip to Alaska in the "Bus," a journey he spoke of often and fondly.
Mr. Colley was preceded in death by three sisters, Marylee Cowart, Carolyn Crowe, and Susanne Grant.
Surviving are the love of his life for 45 years, Jean Lowe Colley; two daughters, Angela Grenadier and her husband Brian of
Wesley Chapel, FL, and Tina Pearson and her husband James of Moncks Corner; two sons, Michael Gene Colley and his wife Kay of Moncks Corner, and Chuck Colley and his wife Heather of Cross; a sister, Linda Ledford of Greer; ten grandchildren, Haley Burke (Richard), Courtney Ard (Taylor), Dustin Bryant, Brittany Sloan, Timmy Osborne (Jessica), Savannah Connor (Marvin), Robert H. Colley (Ellie), Kara Peck (Brian), Austyn Colley, and Bree Colley; and seventeen great grandchildren, Evan, Violet, Elle, Deegan, Inslee, Anderson, Eisley, Layla, Gotham, Harleigh, Kyleigh, Kennedy, Waylon, Gage, Aaron, Cooper, and Madison.
Mr. Colley's funeral will be 11:00 AM Friday morning, March 6, 2026, in the Chapel of Dial Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday evening. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Chaparral Baptist Church, 115 Domingo Drive,
Moncks Corner, SC 29461.
Mr. Bobby leaves behind a legacy of steady hands, a loyal heart, and a life lived on his own terms. He will be remembered for his love of the open road, the hum of a good engine, the satisfaction of a well built project, and the deep devotion he held for his family. His stories, his laughter, and the quiet strength he carried through life will continue to live on in the generations who loved him.
