Nellie (Kroeze) Ayars

Nellie (Kroeze) Ayars, 97, went to be with the Lord Jesus, August 3, 2010 in Arlington, WA. She was born to William and Peterche "Nellie" Kroeze on December 12, 1912 in Arlington. Nellie grew up on a farm north of Arlington attending Trafton School. Her mother passed away suddenly when she was 13, so she left school to care for four younger siblings at home. Nellie had enjoyed school, she missed the classroom studies and playing baseball at recess. As a young adult, she met Stillman Ayars at church. They fell in love and were married in 1944. Stillman worked for the City of Arlington while Nellie was a homemaker and took care of the garden. In 1951 they began caring for a baby boy, who they grew to love and were able to adopt when he was 18 months old, naming him Arthur. When Nellie was a teenager she understood that Jesus Christ had paid the debt that her sins required by His death on the cross. Knowing this, she trusted Christ as her Lord and Savior and received eternal life. Nellie enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and was able to quote many passages of scripture from memory. She recited Psalm 23 perfectly just two weeks before her passing. For the last eight years, Nellie lived at Cascade Senior Living in Arlington. She was part of the "family" there, receiving wonderful care. Her last few weeks required the greater loving care provided by Regency Care Center at Arlington.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Stillman; son, Arthur; and eleven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by brothers, John Kroeze, Chuck Kroeze; sisters, Grace Kroeze, Lillian Peterson, June Etherington; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
A Funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 6, 2010, at the Arlington Gospel Hall, 323 S. Stillaguamish Ave., Arlington, WA 98223, with viewing prior to the service. A lunch will follow and a graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. at Arlington Municipal Cemetery.
