Neil Vaughan Obituary

Neil Vaughan Charleston - Command Master Chief (Ret.) Neil Dallas Vaughan, 78, of Charleston, SC, husband of Emily Golden Vaughan, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 in the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 5412 Highway 165, Hollywood, at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Christ-St. Paul's Parish Cemetery, 4981 Chapel Rd., Yonges Island. The family will receive friends on Saturday, one hour prior to the service, in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Neil was born February 11, 1943 in Dorchester County, SC, a son of the late John Elkins Vaughan, Sr. and the late Frances Scoggins Vaughan. Neil grew up in Ridgeville, SC, where he graduated from Ridgeville High School, graduated from Spartanburg Methodist Junior College and attended Wofford College. He joined the Navy in 1964, first serving as a sonar technician for the USS Sampson, and serving continuously until retiring in 1986 as Command Master Chief of the Naval Security Group Charleston. After retiring, he bought and ran a general store in Ridgeville - Vaughan's, with his brother, Greig and nephew, Scott, selling groceries, hardware, furniture, and other goods. Along with his wife, Emily Golden Vaughan of 53 years, he is survived by his son, Neil D. Vaughan Jr. (Laura); his daughter, Jessica Vaughan; his grandson, John "Jack" D. Vaughan, his brothers, John "Jack" E. Vaughan, Jr. (Joyce), Greig S. Vaughan (Delores), Michael E. Vaughan (Linda) and Steve F. Vaughan; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Polly Ann Meadows. Flowers will be accepted, and memorial donations may be made in his honor to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Christ-St. Paul's Parish Churchyard Cemetery Fund and Intrepid Hospice.
