Michael Lee Yelton, Sr. EDISTO ISLAND, SC - This is a celebration of a wonderful life. Mickey Yelton was a very special person that had a beautiful life. He loved and cherished his family and many friends. He made everyone feel like they were important no matter their status or station in life. He was truly a friend to us all. Mickey was born in Marion, NC, on January 29, 1944, to Lee and Eddie Yelton. His family moved to Williston when he was a child. He graduated from Williston Elko High School in 1962 and attended Spartanburg Methodist College and soon after, fell in love with a special lady named Buff and they were newlyweds for 57 years. There are marriages made in heaven and theirs was most definitely one. Mickey and Buff showed us how to love, how to care, and how much joy there is when you find that right person to spend your life with. Being with them was a blessing to us all. Mickey was an avid golfer and made long and fast friends in his love of the game. He always remembered the good shots and not the bad ones. That is the way we should all live our lives. He also loved to cook his special ribs for family and friends. As the years went by, they always seemed to get better and tastier. He worked many years at the Savanah River Site and always answered his phone, Yelton Pipe. Mickey was a man that people looked up to and trusted. He was a member of Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local 150 in Augusta, GA. After more than 50 years of living in Williston, he finally gave in and retired to Edisto Beach and The Plantation Golf Course. As you might expect, he quickly became one of the guys and a golf course ranger. No one is sure if it was for the love of the game or because he got a reduced rate. He loved Buff, Pud, Michael, and his grandchildren with all of his heart. There will never be a better husband and father for us all to mirror. His favorite son-in-law loved him like a father. Survivors include his wife, Buff of Edisto Beach, SC; his children, Lisa (Bret Evans) of Aiken, SC; son, Michael Yelton (Elysia) of Edisto Beach, SC; grandchildren, Claire Evans, Kathleen (Chandler) Stokes, James Yelton; great-grandchild, Walker; and brother, David Yelton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Lee Yelton; brothers, Sidney and Rodney Yelton. Funeral services for Mickey will be held at two oclock p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2023, in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, S.C., with Reverend Dr. Beth Yarborough and Reverend Kevin Stroop officiating. Burial will follow in the Williston Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
