Matthew Simpson Obituary

Matthew Simpson JOHNS ISLAND - Matthew Alexander Simpson - Matt Simpson, aged 27, of Johns Island, SC, died October 1 in Raleigh, NC. He was born December 23, 1996, the son of Terry and Allison Simpson. He grew up in Summerville, SC, where he was a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church's youth group, boys basketball team, and a four-year member of Summerville High's Golf Team. Matt was an excellent student throughout his academic career. A lifelong Clemson Tiger fan, Matt graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences from Clemson University in 2019. After graduation, he was employed as a laboratory scientist in Charleston. Matt was never happier than when he was playing a round of golf, out on the water fishing the creeks and ponds of Seabrook Island or snuggled up with one of the family dogs. He was a Lowcountry boy through and through and was most at home in the beauty of the coast. Matt was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Anna and Haskell Simpson. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Allison and Terry Simpson; his sisters, Abby and Grace Simpson; his future brother-in-law, Evan Watson; his maternal grandparents, Pat and Don Sherlock; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and the three family dogs, Cooper, Eddie and Greta. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 12, at Summerville Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Wake Up Carolina (wakeupcarolina.org) in Matt's memory are greatly appreciated.
