Mary Smoak Obituary

SMOAK, Mary BRANCHVILLE - Mrs. Mary R. Smoak, 85, of 521 Ott Street, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 in Columbia, SC. Mrs. Smoak was born February 13, 1920 in Asheboro, NC; a daughter of the late Cone S. Ridge and Gladys B. Hailey Ridge, and she was the widow of the late John Gary Smoak, Jr. Mrs. Smoak was a member of the Branchville Baptist Church. she was active in the church and the school community for many years. She served as PTA President, Sunday School teacher, GA Leader, and sang in the church choir. She was known to her friends as "Miss Mary". Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Branchville Baptist Church with the Dr. Richard Porter and Rev. Dallas Redding, officiating. Burial will be in the Sardis Cemetery in Branchville. The casket will be placed in the church at 1:00 p.m. Surviving are one son, Douglas A. Smoak and wife Mary of West Columbia; two daughters, Madelyn Smoak of Durham, NC, and Karen A. Smoak of Cayce; two beloved grandchildren, Gary T. Smoak and Amelia E. Smoak, and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the OTT FUNERAL HOME in Branchville. Memorial may be made to the Branchville Baptist Church.
