Mary Punteney Obituary

Mary "Loretta" Punteney ASHEVILLE, NC - Mary "Loretta" Seabrook Punteney passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2016. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Loretta was born in Charleston on June 18, 1930 to the late Teddy and Mamie Seabrook. She was the eldest of four daughters. Loretta graduated from Bishop England High School in 1948. She was a cheerleader, a basketball player, and was voted "Best Looking" of her senior class. She married Eugene Salmonsen in August of 1948 and they had five children together. Later in her life, she was married to Archie Punteney and was close to his two children. Loretta loved deeply and enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and taking yearly family vacations at Folly Beach. She was the life of the party and made everyone she met feel special and warm. Although she could never deliver the punch-line of a joke, Loretta could always be counted to provide comic relief to any situation with her outlook on life and her funny euphemisms. She was devoted to family and will be missed by all who loved her. Loretta is survived by her sister, Betty Barrineau; brother-in-law, Joe McIntyre; four children and their spouses, Gene Salmonsen (Elaine), JoAnne McGee (Calvin), Mary Rollins (Gary), Sally Dey (Steve); grandchildren, Shannon McGee Jaindl, Matthew McGee (Krista), Chelsea Salmonsen, Jessica Salmonsen, Steve Dey, Tedi Rollins, and Alex Dey; and one great-grandchild, Brynn Jaindl. Her step-children are Carol Punteney (Jim), Tommy Punteney (Wanda). In addition to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, she is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Archie Punteney; her son, Ted Salmonsen; and her sisters, Delores Spencer and Joan McIntyre; and brothers-in-law, Herb Spencer and Roy Barrineau. She was also predeceased by her long-time caretaker and dear friend, Hattie Jenkins. Memorial services will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Village Vision, Inc. (A lifetime community solution for individuals with special needs), PO Box 450, Isle of Palms, SC 29451). Ms. Loretta was a beautiful woman, and I can say I have been so blessed to have spent some time getting to know her. She had a smile to light up a room. So sorry for your loss, but know she has her healing now and is at great peace.
