Dear Leslie, even though I never met you, sure I did with mark. Such a great sport, went fishing with him a couple of times to the Bahamas with your Dad. I'm quite surprised with his passing, receive my late condolences.

Dear Leslie;
I got an email regarding my 40th high school reunion coming up. I was perusing the list of names seeing who had not been contacted yet. I was shocked to see Mark had died. I haven't seen him in 20 years and I miss him. Funny how that is.

The 1st time I ever met Mark was Northwood little league baseball. He was a pitcher and when I saw him on the mound he scared the ____ out of me. He was so muscular and could throw the ball so hard. Intimidating on the mound but a funny, likable guy off. I got to know him better when I got into Saint Mary's. We played little league football together on the Cherokees too. I was much happier on his team than opposing him. He was the star. Good at every sport.

We went to separate colleges and I only saw him a couple of times since then. It is hard to believe he is no longer with us. I suppose I just assumed our paths would cross again one day. I am saddened realizing that they won't. I miss him.

I hope you are doing well Leslie and I am sorry for you loss. I hope too that our paths cross one day. It would be good to see you again. I clicked on the "add photo" button since you probably don't remember me. It may not help though since it has been 35+ years.

Sincerely,
Mike Traylor

Though our relationship was brief, it was enough to show me that Mark was an exceptional human being. Always upbeat and smiling, he brightened the world around him.

Leslie, it was bitter sweet seeing you at the visitation. I am sorry for your loss. I have not seen you in so long and I was glad to see you, but I feel very sad. I would never believe that Mark died had I not been there. Mark has always been my guide and I owe him so much. I'm the little nuisance boy that grew up next door to Mark. Yes, he pretended to tolerate me, but it was really because he and every other teenaged boy wanted to be around my three beautiful sisters, Shan, Tyna and Skye Wells. In the 1970's, Pelham Estates had a high concentration of kids and super athletes. Boys won the state football title in 1977. Boys within a stones throw went on to play for USC and Ga, but there were just so many amazing guys to look up to. They were all so big, strong and awesome. Mark was the closest to my age but he was like 6 years older. He was a great athlete and he taught me how to play baseball, football and basketball. I had like a permanent permission from my Mom to go to Mark's if he was outside practicing a sport, AND Mark was always practicing. I remember playing pickup football, games of pickle, and the sound of his bouncing basketball until 11 was like a moth pulled by light. I guess Mom couldn't sleep from the noise, so she always let me go practice.

Mark was my mentor - he helped me get better in every sport. I looked up to him like a god. He was a great role model. He was clean cut, against drugs, funny, had a great personality, and was always kind to me and the other kids my age. for a while he drove a Jeep and it created my jeep passion. Of course I copied Mark and I got a jeep (still got the same orange jeep).

We moved to a different neighborhood when Mark went to college, and I lost touch. I was growing and changing too, but I remember going to the front of the Clemson stadium to see him cheer and he still always took time and talked to me, like I was his little brother. Mark effectively was the big brother I never had and I will always remember and love him.
Signed Joel Norwood (he called me Buddy Wells)

I am sorry for your loss. I was good friends with Mark all 4 years at Clemson and we lived next door to each other for 3. I thought the world of him. We had a lot of laughs and good times. He and my roommate Steve were best of friends and would laugh almost nonstop whenever they got together - what a pair they were. He always had a big presence and will be missed. I will keep you in my prayers.

What a shock to hear about Mark's passing. Although I knew him only for a short time, I enjoyed his company at College of Charleston basketball games. He will be missed!

I am stunned by this tragic news. I knew Mark in high school; we played guitars together along with Ron Romano. He was such a strong and alert guy with a great sense of humor. I am at a loss for words. My prayers go out to his sister and for Mark as well. God, take care of our friend and thank you.
