Marilyn Mason Obituary

MARILYN J. MASON, PH.D. Marilyn J. Mason, Ph.D., age 81, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend to many whose lives she touched, passed away on October 16, 2014, after four years of coping valiantly with cancer. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota and lived in Minneapolis for over 20 years prior to her current home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Marilyn was an inspiration to those who knew her and her community spans the globe. There is much to be learned from a woman who accomplished so much and who told us in her last days, "My bucket list is empty, I have lived my life fully and am very curious about what comes next in this great journey of life." Author, psychologist, mentor, professional coach, family therapist and consultant, Marilyn was internationally recognized for her work on leadership, governance, the dynamics in business cultures, family systems, addictions, and women's rights. She was the author of several books. The Director- Founder of Journeys Unlimited, Marilyn shared her passion for the world, combining adventure and "in-venture" leading treks through Tibet, China, Greece, the Caucasus, Peru's Inca Trail, Tanzania, and Bhutan. Marilyn received numerous awards for professional accomplishments and community involvement. Her work has been recognized in The New York Times, USA Today, and The Wall Street Journal. She has served on many boards including The Voyageur Outward Bound School, The Hazelden Foundation, and The Tibetan American Foundation (Chair). She was the founding Chair of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum's Woman of Distinction Committee and is past President of the International Women's Forum, New Mexico. She also served on the Board of Rancho la Puerta and was Board President of KSFR Radio of Santa Fe. Marilyn is also Founding Committee member of The Women's International Study Center. Ms. Mason is survived by her children, Jerrod Stelli and Jeanine Stelli Esparolini (Mark), her daughter-in-law, Lorrie Warner, her grandchildren, Morgan Stelli and Nicolas Esparolini, her sisters Sue Engelskirchen and Phyllis Quinn, and brother John Mason.
