Marilyn Bond Obituary

Marily Margaret McGuire Bond MT. PLEASANT - Marilyn Margaret McGuire Bond, widow of Kenneth R. Bond and mother of Robert Bond, Sharon Bond, and Valerie Romanelli, died Sunday, May 2, 2010. The relatives and friends of Marilyn Bond are invited to attend her funeral services at J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., in Mount Pleasant on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at 3 p.m. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the Chapel. Marilyn Bond was born August 5, 1928, in Ovid, NY, daughter of the late George McGuire and Grace Ford McGuire. Marilyn met her future husband, Kenneth from Port Washington, NY in a diner while he was stationed in Sampson, NY. They were married in 1949 and celebrated 59 years together before his death on December 4, 2008. During their marriage, they traveled to Bermuda, Portugal, and to visit family around the US. She worked as a telephone operator for the Kings Park School District, was an avid bowler and a fabulous cook who enjoyed preparing large and memorable meals for family celebrations. Marilyn and Kenneth retired to South Carolina in 1993 to be near their daughters, Sharon and Valerie. Marilyn always loved a good joke, but could rarely tell one without laughing before the punch line. She will be remembered for her kind-heartedness, generosity of spirit, and her laughter. Marilyn was a devoted wife to Kenneth and loving mother to her three children, Bob Bond of St. James, NY, Sharon Bond and Valerie Romanelli, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Marilyn was much loved by her seven grandchildren, Darryl Bond, Brad Bond, Kirsten Bond, Robert Blain, Michela Blain, Gina Romanelli and Daniel Romanelli. She is also survived by two sisters, Ida Bromka of Ovid, NY and Theresa O'Mara of Rochester, NY; one brother, Thomas McGuire of NJ; her daughter-in-law, Carol Bond and two sons-in-law, Jim Blain and Joe Romanelli and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, George McGuire and her sister, Phyllis Overbay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, South Carolina Region, 500 Taylor Street, Suite 101, Columbia, SC 29201-3000 or www.kidney.org A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
