Marie Hiers Roach BEAUFORT, SC - Mrs. Marie Hiers Roach, 62, of Ihly Farm Road, Beaufort, entered into eternal rest Friday, July 23, 2010, at her residence under the care of Winyah Hospice. Funeral services will be held 3 o'clock, Monday, July 26, 2010, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Roach was born July 8, 1948, in Ridgeland, the youngest daughter of Homer Thomas Hiers, Sr. and Ruth Hogg Hiers Drawdy. After college, Marie spent most of her adult life north of Chicago, Illinois before returning to the South Carolina Lowcountry. Friends who loved her remember her love of flowers, her passion for her family and her sparkling personality. Most recently, she was a Pharmacy Technician at Target in Bluffton. Her family will be forever grateful for the care she received through Medical University of South Carolina. She was a member of Baptist Church of Beaufort. Surviving are: her husband Carl Dennis Roach of Beaufort; children, Jamie Funderburk and his wife Aixa of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois and Lorrie Funderburk and her husband Sul Jumani of Charleston; sister, Patricia Hiers Pope and her husband Richard of Hampton; brothers, Reverend Homer Thomas Hiers, Jr. and his wife Erma of Beaufort and Buddy W. Hiers and his wife Emily of Varnville; grandchildren, Kyle and Kaden Funderburk; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Hiers and sister, Juanita Hiers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaufort County Relay For Life. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 4 until 6 pm at THE BRICE W. Marie and I were at Columbia Commercial College together in 1967-68 and I will never forget what a pretty girl she was and what a great personality she had. We shared lots of fun together during those days. May God be with you all during this time of sorrow. I know she will definitely be missed.
