Margaret Moorhead Obituary

MOORHEAD, Margaret BLACKSBURG, SC - Margaret Dempsey Moorhead, 84, 269 John's Cross Road, Died May 20, 2006, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Ft. Benning, Ga., she was married to the late Columbus C. Moorhead and was a daughter of the late Jacob P. and Callie Williams Dempsey. She was an active member of the Blacksburg A.R. Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Piedmont Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Eastern Star. She was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. A graduate of Winthrop College, she taught at Limestone College and Blacksburg High School. She was a member of the South Carolina Pork Board. She was also a housewife and farmer. Surviving are: two sons, Robert "Bob" Moorhead and wife, Dale, of Blacksburg; and Richard "Dickie" Moorhead and wife, Joyce, of Blacksburg; one sister, Eloise Dempsey, Blacksburg, six grandchildren, Robyn Binger and husband, Chris, of Atlanta, Ga., Tate Nicolini and husband, Michael, of Duncan, SC, Clint Wilkins and wife, Lisa, of Chapel Hill, NC, Meg Wilkins, Simpsonville, SC, Richard Moorhead and wife, Stephanie, of Blacksburg; and Patrick Moorhead and wife, Angela, of Blacksburg, eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Wilkins. A celebration of life service will be held graveside, Tuesday, May 23, 2006, 11:00 a.m., at Mountain View Cemetery, with Rev. David Rowe officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Holly Grove Catering, 302 Holly Grove Road, Blacksburg. At other times, they will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342; Iron City Ministries, 109 W. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, SC 29702; or to Blacksburg A.R. Margaret was always a pleasure to talk with. Family was always the topic of discussion, and she loved life. We will miss her letters updating us on family, friends and activities. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.
