Year after year Classmate, you will never be forgotten. Sleep in peace Mace.

October 18, 2006

It's been 29 days since I said goodbye. Just today, I realized that you're really gone. I've been so busy worrying about Jay and your parents that I didn't take the time to realize what I had lost.

From the day we met to the day they sealed your casket, 15 years and 7 months passed. Those were some LONG years. But as I look back, they were necessary years.

As I stood at your bedside, I had the opportunity, as others did, to replay and remember old times. And in your death, I received a wake up call to take better care of me.

Mace, I love you, man. Thank you for Jay. Thank you for the miles that you traveled between Charleston and Mobile. But most of all, thank you for your final call, it showed me that you remembered. It gives me comfort to know that your soul is at peace. No what if's. No I shoulda's. No I coulda's-just peace.

To the Ross Family:

Birth is a beginning
and death a destination
And life is a journey:
From childhood to maturity
and youth to age;
From innocence to awareness
and ignorance to knowing;
From foolishness to desecration
and then perhaps to wisdom.
From weakness to strength or
from strength to weakness
and often back again;
From health to sickness
and we pray to health again.
From offense to forgiveness
from loneliness to love
from joy to gratitude
from pain to compassion
from grief to understanding
from fear to faith.
From defeat to defeat to defeat
until looking backwards or ahead
We see that victory lies not
at some high point along the way
but in having made the journey
step by step
a sacred pilgrimage.
Birth is a beginning
and death a destination
And life is a journey;
A sacred journey to life everlasting

"Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me life is Christ, and death is gain. If I go on living in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. And I do not know which I shall choose. I am caught between the two. I long to depart this life and be with Christ, for that is far better. Yet that I remain in the flesh is more necessary for your benefit."

God Bless you.

To Mr. and Mrs. Ross: I am so deeply sorry for the loss of Maceo. I remember how much fun we had as kids running around the bowling alley and at Middleton High. To the Ross Family;

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to you all. Me and Maceo went to school together and had many laughs together; he always had a special laugh that would make you smile. I could remember sitting in 8th grade at Drayton Hall in Ms. Polks class watching him and Maurice making jokes. I only want to remember the good things and times we had together. He is in a good place and all is sorrow and pain is wash away. He would want us to remember the good things and to keep on smiling and shining; because one day we will soon see him again. When times get hard family and you seem like you can't go on; call on Jesus and he will see you through. God Bless!

I will miss you Maceo...

To the Ross Family,

Maceo and I went to school together until I left Middleton High School in the tenth grade. He and I became close during homeroom in the ninth grade. Over the years when I would see him, he always greeted me with a smile. He was a very friendly person and I will miss him. I know this is a difficult time but u r not alone, our heavenly Father is with u. There is nothing too big for Him.There is no sorrow on earth that Jesus can not heal. I pray u will seek comfort from the God of comfort and love. He will help u if u ask Him. Trust Him and His grace and mercy will bring u through. May the peace of God guard and keep your hearts and minds-He will keep in perfect peace all those whose minds are stayed on Him. U r in my prayers. May God bless and keep u.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

September 21, 2006

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
