Louise Sottile Obituary

Louise W. Sottile MT. PLEASANT - Louise Wynne Sottile, age 98, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, entered into eternal rest on October 26, 2022. Louise was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, the daughter of Charles L. and Docia Lee Gresham Wynne. At her brother's urging, she moved to Charleston during World War II, where he was stationed, and she never left. In 1946, she met the love of her life, Salvador (Sally) Sottile, on the beach at the Isle of Palms. They married in 1947. They were among the first full-time residents on the Isle of Palms. Over the years, Sally's job allowed the couple to take many vacations, traveling to the four corners of the world. Louise so loved each and every trip. In addition to raising her children, in the 1960s, she became a career businesswoman who was ahead of her time. After her children were old enough, she joined the business world. Among other positions that Louise held, she served as the USPS Postmaster for the Isle of Palms for over 25 years, retiring in 1986. She was a past president of the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters. Louise had a very sharp mind. For many years after her retirement, she could recount almost every Isle of Palms resident's name and address. Louise is survived by three children: Nicholas C. Sottile (Val), Susan Sottile Momeier (Chris) and William A. Sottile (Terri); five grandchildren; Michael Momeier, David Momeier, Leah Lewin (Alex), Nicholas S. Sottile and Stephen R. Sottile, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her husband, her daughters, Elisabeth Sottile Lewin (Barry) and Charlotte L. Sottile, and her brother, Herbert Wynne. Louise was a loving mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Louise was a member of Stella Maris Catholic Church and Saint Clare of Assisi Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 o'clock a.m. on Saturday, October 29 at Stella Maris Catholic Church on Sullivan's Island. The family will receive visitors at the Church 30 minutes before the service. A private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or to the charity of one's choice.
