Lola Mary Leary Jones McKenzie SUMMERVILLE - Lola Mary Leary Jones McKenzie, 88, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at the Village at Summerville. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2014, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 2 o'clock. Burial will follow in the churchyard. Visitation will be held at PARKS FUNERAL HOME on Friday evening from 5 to 7 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Altar Guild (111 Waring St., Summerville, SC 29483), Frances Willis SPCA (PO Box 1116, Summerville, SC 29484), Pinewood Preparatory School (1114 Orangeburg Rd., Summerville, SC 29483), Hospice of Charleston (4975 LaCross Rd., #200, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464), Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation (1615 W. 92nd St., Kansas City, MO 64114), or Village at Summerville Employee Appreciation Fund (201 W. 9th North St., Summerville, SC 29483). Lola was born December 25, 1925, in Savannah, GA, the daughter of John S. Leary, Sr. and Virginia Mills Leary. She graduated from St. Andrews High School, earned her B.S. degree from the College of Charleston, and her Master's degree from The Citadel. She taught 33 years in Dorchester School District 2 Elementary Schools and after retirement, at Pinewood Preparatory School. She established the Summerville Swim Team and served as its first coach. She was named Dorchester School District 2 Teacher of the Year, and was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority. She was also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and its Altar Guild. She was on the SPCA Board and a member of the Summerville Music Club. She is survived by one son, Sidney Belmont Jones III (Julie) of Summerville; one daughter, Rhett Jones Frampton (John), also of Summerville; two grandchildren: J. Grimball Frampton, Jr. and Virginia Frampton Hess (Hal); great-grandson, Davis Allen Hess, all of Summerville; two stepsons, Barry D. McKenzie and Michael G. McKenzie; and one brother, Jack Leary of Houston, TX. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her first husband, Sidney B. Jones, Jr., and second husband, Charles H. McKenzie. I was so saddened to hear of Coach Jones' passing. All of us swimmers are better people today because of her. Could not attend the services because we were out of town, but Monty, you and Rhett are on our minds. May you find peace. Sincerely The Thompson family.
