Lloyd Bursey Obituary

Lloyd Bursey HANAHAN - Lloyd Kennedy Bursey, 91, of Hanahan, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 26, 1934, in Chazy, New York, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Ritchie Bursey and Adolphus Bursey. Lloyd is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Dawn Monette Bursey of Hanahan, SC; his children, Mark Bursey (Millie) of Garden City, GA; Debra Bursey Summers of Goose Creek, SC; and Lisa Bursey Craven (Ryan) of Summerville, SC; his grandchildren, Jeremy Bursey, Jamie Bursey (Luisa), Dejai Kernodle (Jim), David Summers, Jr. (Shannon), Stephanie Daubert (Scott), Christopher Summers, Roxanne Chapman (Orren), Suzanne Bueher (Mike), and Bailey Rocko (Bryan); and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother, Floyd Bursey (Shirley) of Champlain, NY; his brother, Hugh Bursey (Darla) of Arizona; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his brothers, Martin Bursey, Collin Bursey, and Junior Bursey; and his son-in-law, David Summers, Sr. A proud veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars, Lloyd served as a navigator in the United States Air Force. While stationed at Charleston Air Force Base, he was a member of the first C-5A flight crew to circumnavigate the globe. Following his military retirement, he continued his life of service as a letter carrier and mechanic with the U.S. Postal Service, where he was honored with a U.S. Government award for 50 years of service. Dedicated and hardworking, Lloyd took pride in every role he held - whether soaring through the skies or serving his community on the ground. Lloyd's life was also defined by family, fellowship, and community. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Charleston Model-A Club, and a loyal Carolina Gamecocks fan. However, his proudest accomplishment was being a loving husband, father, and Bepaw. At family gatherings, he often reminded everyone, "If it wasn't for me, none of you would be here." A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 5, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at The American Legion Post 166 in Goose Creek, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Bursey family,
Mr Bursey was an amazing man, but you already know that. He was loved by so many, me included. You all are in my prayers and I'm sending hugs. I have so many great memories of him and your family, to many to list. Just know that I'm here if you need me to do anything for you. You're part of my family.
