Colonel Burns proudly served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force, retiring after 28 years of distinguished military service. His career was marked by unwavering dedication, leadership, and honor earning him deep respect among those who served alongside him, following his retirement from the Air Force. Colonel Burns continued his lifelong commitment to veteran and public service.. He served nineteen years as a Dorchester County Veterans Affairs Officer, where he tirelessly advocated for and supported fellow veterans and their families.
Colonel Edward Burns, was a devoted member of several respected organizations, including the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars(VFW), and St. Andrews Post. His faith, fellowship and service to others were central to his life and legacy.
Colonel Edward Burns, leaves to cherish his memory his daughters; Alicia Siehl (Chris) and Angie Riley (James);grandchildren: Sean, Spencer and LeighAnn Siehl, Jake and Chase Riley; great-grandchildren: Ellie and Luke; the mother of his daughters, Polly Burns.
Colonel Edward Burns, will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his selfless service to country and community, and his deep love for his family. His legacy of honor, compassion, and dedication will live on in the many lives he touched.
The family will be receive friends Sunday February 15, 2026 from 1pm to 3pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home 303.S Main Street Summerville, SC 29483. Military Honors will follow on Tuesday February 17, 2026, 12 pm at Beaufort National Cemetery 1601 Boundary Street
Beaufort, SC 29902.
