Lisa Alcoser-Helms Obituary

Lisa Diane Alcoser-Helms SUMMERVILLE - Lisa Diane Alcoser-Helms, 54, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Lisa was born January 28, 1970, to Federico and Lorraine in New York City, NY. After graduating from Stratford High School in 1988, she was accepted for enrollment into Francis Marion College. Afterward, she worked for Sam's Club, becoming cash office supervisor after years of hard work and commitment. She later took her talents to work at SC Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston, then to the accounting firm of Moore, Kirkland and Beauston. She ended her professional career at Horizon Scientific as head of customer service. In 1994, Lisa met Paul Helms at Sam's Club. In 1999, they were married at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church and went on to raise their nephew, Deron Fredrick Smith; and their daughter, Arabella Christina Helms. Lisa was a member of St. John the Beloved from her childhood and was a wonderful lector of the Word of God and an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. She undertook both ministries with reverence and joy. Lisa also enjoyed writing poetry and prose and reading. She was the editor of the Stratford High School newspaper and yearbook. Survivors include her husband, Paul M. Helms, Jr. of Summerville, SC; daughter, Arabella Christina Helms of Summerville, SC; father, Federico Smith and mother, Lorraine Smith of Progresso, Belize; sisters, Lori Nealy of Jacksonville, FL, and Lynnetta Alston of Summerville, SC; brothers, Fred Smith of San Antonio, TX and Kevin Smith of Groton, CT; niece, Jessica Fabry of Auburn, AL; nephews, Devon Smith of Summerville, SC, and Jonathan Fabry of Jacksonville, FL; and Aiden Roberts, Ana Smith, Nina Smith, Anthony Smith, Miles Smith, and Piearce Alston. Lisa was predeceased by her great-grandmother, Muriel Christina Garbutt of Stan Creek, Belize; grandmothers, Amy Garbutt of Ocala, FL, and Doris Alcoser of New York, NY; and aunt, Deanie Carelock of New York, NY. The Funeral Mass will be Thursday morning, October 24, 2024, at 11 o'clock at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. The rite of committal will follow in Summerville Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM at Parks Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lisa's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by visiting www.stjude.org/donate.
