Linda Wichlei Obituary

Linda Jean Wichlei MT. PLEASANT - Linda was born to the late Woodrow and Christine Warner in Humboldt Nebraska, in 1941. Growing up in a military family provided Linda with the unique experience of spending her early years exploring Germany and Japan. Later in life, the family settled in Columbus, GA, where she graduated from Columbus High School in 1959. Shortly after, she earned her RN degree, graduating in the first nursing class at St. Francis Hospital school of nursing. That same year she was engaged and married to the late Willis J. Wichlei. They shared 49 beautiful years, residing primarily in Charleston, SC. Linda's Career in Charleston started at Roper St. Francis, working as a labor and delivery nurse and at the department of health. She retired from MUSC after dedicating 20 years of service in the neonatal NICU. Her career was a testament to her love and commitment to helping others. Linda had a vivacious love for life and most of all the people she shared it with. As soon as the latest gathering had taken place she was always looking forward to the next time we would meet. Linda enjoyed many activities she was passionate about, her bridge, golf, and dance groups where she shared decades of memories, friendships, and laughter. We all will surely miss that 5 o'clock happy hour on the sunporch, a tradition so many of us shared and still hold close to our hearts. We will miss her belting out that boisterous laugh. She truly lived to love and uplift everyone in her life and will be missed. Linda is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Sandy & Larry Hudson; sister, Carol Foster; three children, daughter and son-in-law, Christy & Edmund Monteith, son, and daughter-in-law, Bill & Mary Beth Wichlei, son & daughter-in-law, Brian & Quinn Wichlei; six wonderful grandchildren; Brandon & Jenny Bogle, Krystyna & Collin Engom, Zachary Wichlei, Allison Wichlei, Grant Wichlei, & Ian Wichlei; two great-grandchildren: Greyson Bogle & Cooper Bogle. She was so very proud of each of her children and grandchildren and she will live on forever in their hearts. Linda passed away peacefully January 20, 2022, with her family by her side due to complications from Pneumonia. With everyone's safety in mind, we have decided to postpone a memorial for non-family members. Once the surge in cases has subsided, we will organize a spring celebration for us to gather and celebrate Linda's wonderful life. At her request, we ask for donations to the Parkinson's foundation in place of flowers. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston

I am so sorry to read of Linda´s passing.
I worked with her at MUSC in the 90´s. Debra Gault then June C. was the manager. I was a traveling nurse then went on staff after I got married.
Linda always reminded me of my mother. Always happy, sweet and a big smile on her face. She was a genuine and sincere person. Loved line dancing and her family.
Don´t know if anyone will be reading this so long after her passing, but wanted to let you know what a wonderful person she was and a joy to be around. I will miss her posts on Facebook.

Christy, Bill and Brian, I am SO SO sorry to read about the loss of Linda. And shocked, also. I will miss hearing her laugh especially at the bridge table! I have special memories of your Mother as she was always so kind and a very thoughtful friend. It was always special when y´all came in the afternoon after school. I knew I had better have some ice tea ready for Bill! I live in the same place so please stop to see me when ya´ll are this way. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for your loss. The obit in the paper was a true testimony of her life and was beautifully written. Love ya´ll!!
