Leo Pate Obituary

Leo Thomas Pate Jr. HANAHAN - Leo Thomas Pate Jr., 72, of Hanahan, South Carolina, entered eternal rest Saturday, February 17, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2024, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Beaufort National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Leo was born May 28, 1951, in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Leo Thomas Pate Sr. and Lenora Driggers Pate. He joined the US Air Force at the age of 18, serving in the Vietnam War. Leo was a gifted worker within the automotive industry; an industry he worked in for over 40 years. He loved to be under a car or under the hood trying to squeeze out every ounce of performance he could muster. His work surrounding custom automotive exhaust fabrication was second-to-none and because of it, was dubbed "Mr. Muffler" by his customers and the local automotive community. His passion for anything with an engine was passed down to his son and grandson. He was also a skilled craftsman who loved to build things. Some of his most cherished possessions were those he built for others. His humor was infectious and often a comfort to others. Additionally, Leo was an avid dancer and loved to shag on many dance floors in Charleston. He loved, and was loved, by his many friends and family which will miss him tremendously. He is survived by his wife and son, Leo Thomas (Kayla) Pate III of Simpsonville, SC, and Jennifer P Pate of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Annie Humphries, Linda Gasparetto; and one brother, Anthony Pate; grandson, Quentin William Pate; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Henson, and Cindy Pate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the College of Charleston Veteran and Military Student Services and/or the American Stroke Association. Leo was the first person to introduce himself to me when I was the new kid in the 6th grade. We remained great friends who hunted, fished camped out, throughout high school. Lost touch over the years and was sad to hear of his passing. Thanks for all the great adventures. RIP old buddy.
