Kathy Richards Obituary

Kathy McCants Richards Charleston - Kathy McCants Richards, 71, passed away on December 16, 2022, and is finally at peace, waiting for the Lord's return. Kathy was born on September 15, 1951, and was the first of five children born to Vivian Flowers McCants and Joseph "Bob" McCants, who predeceased her. Kathy was married to the love of her life, Edward "Eddie" P. Richards, III. They were committed to one another through the trials of life, and especially in "sickness and in health" and she loved him with all her heart and soul. Kathy is survived by her four siblings, Cynthia McCants (William Tezza), Joseph McCants, Jr., Dale McCants, Sr. (Wendy), all of Charleston, and Tina McCants (Al Williams) of Candler, NC and many nieces and nephews. Kathy was beautiful inside and out. She deeply loved her parents and enjoyed animals, especially horses. Many great memories were made riding trails through the woods to Bees Ferry Road with a little group of teens in the late 60s. She trained as a nurse but was sidelined by an MS type illness in her early 20s that was painful and eventually progressive. She endured many surgeries, hospitalizations, and setbacks, but kept a sweet disposition, and hope and faith in God. She enjoyed riding motorcycles with Eddie in their early marriage, until the ravages of the disease kept her from walking and dementia began clouding her mind. She always looked forward to the regular visits with her husband and family until the very end. Services to celebrate Kathy's life will be held at the J. Henry Stuhr's, Inc., West Ashley Chapel on Glenn McConnell Parkway on December 20, 2022, at 1:30pm. The family will receive friends at 11:30am prior to the service. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery on Ft. Johnson Road, James Island, SC following the Service. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
