Kathleen Anderegg Obituary

Kathleen Marie Mazanek Anderegg Mt. Pleasant - Kathleen "Kathy" Marie Mazanek Anderegg, 68, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Charles "Charlie" Melvin Anderegg, Jr., entered into eternal rest Friday, October 29, 2021. Her funeral service will be held Monday, November 8, 2021 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Kathleen was born March 18, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of Bernetta Catherine Petrus Mazanek and Joseph Eugene Mazanek of Cuyahoga County, Cleveland, Ohio. She so often liked to be called "Katrina", as it was her mother's pet name for her. The 12 years of Catholic schooling, she would often say, provided her with a moral compass, a sense of responsibility and a work ethic. As a young adult, her work in the banking industry took her to Florida and Hawaii, and eventually Charleston. Kathy decided a career change was in order and obtained a BA chemical engineering degree from Trident Technical College; graduating first in her class. She spent the next 18 years working at the former Westvaco Pulp and Paper's research and chemical division, where she actually met her future husband, Charlie. Various department heads and supervisors sought her for her eagerness and ability to learn new things quickly. This job suddenly ended with company downsizing, so she accepted a job as office manager of Abide-A-While Nursery where she could be around the nature and plants she truly loved. This gentle selfless soul, working and succeeding in banking and industry, was now working her beloved hobby, second only to fishing. Such a diverse person and such a dichotomy! After a couple of years on the job, Charlie walks into the nursery then into her life. Kathy enjoyed helping friends and neighbors with planting their pots. She had a great heart, always thinking of others and seeking unprompted solutions for their difficulties, often immersing herself in their pain and suffering, almost to a fault. She loved helping her older friends and loved ones in need. She managed her mother-in-law's checkbook in later years using her banking and financial experience. Kathy patiently wrote all the history and detail info on every check, something her mother-in-law insisted on, in the margins, front and back; "an all inclusive document". Kathy never pushed back or insisted there was a better way; she just had the patience and insightfulness to ease her mother-in-law's mind. She provided meals, cleaning, rides, and entertainment for her CPA friend's mother during a difficult medical time for the both of them. She was also on an emergency call list for several of her older shut-in friends. She almost refused to talk about herself, always turning the conversation around. An unbelievable listener, often while sitting in an airport or standing in line, complete strangers would unload their life and concerns on her. It was uncanny how people opened-up to her. She loved to work and play in the gardens, volunteering at Hampton Park, and working at Abide-A-While Garden Center. She enjoyed being a member of Middleton Gardens. She even learned bridge at the senior center to accommodate her husband's love of the game and in doing so created a new and wonderful group of friends. Her double garden home in Snee Farm won a monthly award in a garden magazine. She would often stay still, and a dragonfly or butterfly would land on her outstretched finger. It was the simple things, the details of life that bonded her and Charlie. As her Rheumatoid Arthritis slowed her physical endeavors, she spent more time watching the more popular ETV series as well as cooking, gardening and traveling shows. Other favorites were The Waltons reruns, old westerns, and any regal English movie and even an occasional Blue Bloods - anything sweet, not too violent, where there was a moral to be had and the good prevailed in the end. To her husband, she was a butterfly looking to bump into other beautiful things. She loved to travel, try new adventures, new food...even a zip-lining venture recently with those poor damaged hands. He would call her the most feminine person he knew- a gentle, proper, selfless person with innocence even in late life. She helped Charlie to always remain on the moral high ground and covered any social mis-step. Kathy always knew what he wanted or was thinking before he did then would laugh. Kathy was a lady who was loved, admired, and will truly be missed. She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Charlie; two brothers, Jim Mazanek (Annie), John Surdel (Diane) and brother-in-law, Robert Lusch. Her sister and closest friend, Darlene Lusch, preceded her in death. She is also survived by sister-law, Katherine Anderegg as well as brother-in-law, Jonathan Anderegg (Elizabeth) and their daughters, Bailey Anderegg and Reid Richards (Zack) Memorials may be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church in Cleveland Ohio, 2486 W. 14th Street, Cleveland, OH, 44113, designate for Community Health Center, www.staugustinecleveland.org/ministrytothepoor or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 www.stjude.org/donate.
