Kate was an active member of Charleston County Retired Educators' Association (CCREA) until her health prohibited her from attending meetings. We have made a contribution in her memory to the CCREA Scholarship Fund which presents a gift of $1500 to a deserving high school senior who aspires to be a teacher. A notification of this memorial contribution will be sent to her family if someone will provide us with the address to which it should be sent.

I was so sad to read of Mrs. Duke's passing. She was always Mrs. Dukes to me even though I know she remarried. I was one of her students from Riverland Terrace Elementary in 1956. She was my 5th grade teacher and I loved her dearly. I also knew Mr. Dukes as he played church softball with my dad for many years. I have many fond memories of Mrs. Dukes both from school and from my later life. Wherever I ran into her, she always knew me and would ask about my family. She taught me many things -- from state capitals to learning to love to read. I will always remember her. I know you won't know me but I was Elda Smith in school.

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Barrington. I was one of her students in the last class she taught before retiring, at Stiles Point Elementary School. 35 years later she still remembered me. She was an outstanding teacher and mentor.
My thoughts and prayers are with her.
