Joyce Smith Obituary

Joyce G. Smith CHARLESTON - Joyce G. Smith, 90, wife of Raymond A. C. Smith, of London, England, quietly passed away on Thursday night, December 10, 2020. Joy, as she preferred to be called, was born in Southampton, England on April 22, 1930, the daughter of Nelly and Joe Jones. Joy is survived by her two sons, Peter (Charleston) and Graham(Skaneateles,NY) Smith. Peter's wife, Janet and Graham's wife, Tammy Slater Smith and her two grandchildren, Trevor and Rachel Smith. The newest survivor, her first great-granddaughter, Penelope Jane Smith was born a few days prior to Joy's passing. Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Smith, her parents and brother, Ken Jones. All survivors of World War II and the global depression. Joy met Ray on the Isle of White and honeymooned there a year later. Joy and Ray traveled a great deal and lived in Canada, Scotland, Puerto Rico, suburban New York City, Skaneateles, NY, Woodbury, Connecticut, Syracuse, New York and then Charleston, South Carolina. Joy loved her family, oil painting, sewing clothes, long walks in nature, which, while a member of the Church of England, she called all the natural beauty she beheld "her church." Joy was cremated at the Palmetto Cremation Society. Her ashes will be interred at a later date. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Pet Helpers and the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston
