Joseph Monahan Obituary

1933 - 2012

Joseph Edward Monahan, born August 16, 1933 left this world on June 14, 2012 after a sudden illness. Joe was born in Cumberland, MD where he lived his childhood life. He served in the U.S Navy and was stationed out of Pt. Mugu, CA. It is in Santa Barbara where he met his wife, Teresa Houlihan. Joe and Terry were married 32 years and had five children Michael, Patti, Jim, John, and Maggie.

After his military service, he obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering at Long Beach State, and worked in the Aerospace industry for several companies: Litton, Hughes, McDonald Douglas. He proceeded to continue his education and received his MBA from Pepperdine University in 1980.

His wife, Terri, passed in 1988 and Joe continued to reside in Southern California where he met (Brick) Bill Adams who was at first was his real estate agent, then they became friends and golf buddies. It was during a 1998 golf trip to LaQuinta with Bill when he met the next love of his life, Carol MacGregor. They were golf members at PGA West for 14 years before recently moving to Escondido to be near Carol's daughter, Cammy and husband Darrin Ward whom he loved and were very close to Joe. He was a Eucharistic Minister at St Francis of Assisi in LaQuinta for many years.

Joe is survived by Carol, Cammy and Darrin, and Amy. His children, all who live in Southern California: Mike and Maria Monahan, Patti and Doug Kunnel, Jim and Julie Monahan, Maggie and Jonathan Morrison. Joe was also blessed with many beloved grandchildren: Michael Jr., Kevin & Tyler Kunnel, Cassie Cremeans, Kirsten, Lauren and Kobe Monahan, and Joshua Morrison. On the East Coast Eddie is survived by his sisters, Mary Frampton, Anne Thomas and nieces and nephews.

Services will take place on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 10:00 a.m. in Newport Beach, CA. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the ALS website: http://www.alsa.org/donate. Arrangements are by Alhiser-Comer Mortuary.

Carol. I cannot begin to tell you how sad Dave and I are feeling after just hearing of Joe's passing. He definitely was "one of the good guys" and we are sorry that we didn;t get to see you both last winter. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this extremely sad time.
