Joseph Lambinus Obituary

Joel Lambinus CHARLESTON - Joseph (Joel) Thomas Lambinus, 74, died January 25, 2025. Joel was born March 21, 1950 in Montclair, NJ, in his youth summered on the Jersey shore, and learned to sail at age six. Twice he participated in the US Olympic sailing trials. He graduated from the University of Miami on a sailing scholarship. Joel moved to Charleston in 1977, became a general contractor, and formed Mainsail Construction. He built and remodeled many homes in Charleston and on Kiawah Island. He continued competing in local and regional sailboat races in small and large class boats. He coached local Special Olympic sailors. Joel was a member of James Island Yacht Club and attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Joel is predeceased by his parents, Mary and Joseph, and his brother, Gene. He is survived by cousins, Dolores Phillips, Nancy Leta, and Brother Leta, plus extended New Jersey and Virginia family and a flotilla of friends, including Lin Cook and Chuck McGowan. A memorial service will be held at Circular Congregational Church, 150 Meeting St., on Saturday, February 1 at 1 pm. A reception will follow.
