Inga, so sorry for your loss. My hearts breaks at the thought of Sully being gone. Loved him like my little brother. We had many great memories from our days at the academy until now. He was a great engineer and a great friend. I am still in shock. Praying for you Inga and the boys. God bless and love you all, Butchie Kid, class of 1977.

It’s so sad to hear that “Sully” has passed. He was like a big brother to me back in high school. I enjoyed tearing down part of my parents barn with him and Danny Murphy one summer. I enjoyed having him tutor me in Algebra. All the girls were jealous. We had fun at the Sticky Wicket too. He was so handsome and so very, very smart and he loved my parents and grandparents like his own. RIP my friend. My heartfelt condolences to Inga, your boys and your family.

If you saw them together, you would have thought they were brothers. Today, John joins family and friends that have gone before and an old and special friend, our brother, Danny Murphy. Growing up, we knew John was nearby because we could hear the two of them laughing continuously like teenage twin brothers with their own language. Our parents were impressed and proud of John, and admired his family in Hopkinton. It is no surprise to read John’s stellar accomplishments on sea and land, and of course his greatest accomplishments as a husband, dad, family man and a deeply respected friend. Please know our thoughts and prayers for comfort and peace are with your family through this difficult time.

John and I were classmates at Mass. Maritime Academy - Class of 1979. Although I lost touch with him following graduation, he was a good man and a solid classmate you could always depend on for support. My deepest sympathy to everyone in the family. Smooth seas and a following breeze John.

Inga and family - I am very sorry for your loss. Words cannot describe how I felt when I heard the news. You likely don not know me but I was a classmate and friend of John's at MMA and we graduated together in 1979. We recently spoke and exchanged messages about a project he was working on which involved a former coworker of mine. I was able to provide John with some insight and I was hopeful it helped him succeed with his work. John and I were part of a pretty big contingent of guys that hung out and did everything at Maritime. From sports, road trips to Boston, hanging out at Scusset Heights, or just chillin' - John was a great friend and was always there for anyone who needed his humor and wisdom. I know those classmates that were close to John will be devastated by the news. I wish you and your family solace during this difficult time knowing that John touched many hearts during his time on this earth.

I met John in 2002 on a major maritime case. We remained friends over the years. I always admired his abilities, energy, and loyalty as a friend. I will miss getting occasional texts from him on issues of mutual interest, and really wish I'd gotten together with him again in person as we often discussed. My sincere condolences to John's friends and family.

John has been a great friend and business professional. He epitomized the Chief Engineer that could fix or find a solution to a problem. Forever a fighter at heart, he loved challenges, always looking for, and accomplishing tasks; making something better or a new way to look at a problem. I am already missing my “Boston Brother” and his input/feedback. God bless this family.
