John Shaw Obituary

John Whitworth Shaw, III SUMTER, SC - Dr. John Whitworth Shaw, III, 67, husband of Brenda Outlaw Shaw, died Saturday, August 21, 2010, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, he was the son of Mary Frances Bass Shaw and the late John Whitworth Shaw, Jr. Dr. Shaw was a graduate of Edmunds High School, Clemson College, and the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine. He also served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. He was the owner of the Palmetto Veterinary Clinic, and was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians, the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, where he served as a past Chairman, the South Carolina Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Society of First Families of South Carolina, the First Families of Virginia, Rotary International, and First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a past Deacon. Surviving are his beloved wife of Sumter; his mother of Sumter; two sons, John Whitworth Shaw IV of Charleston and Allen Bass Shaw and wife Mary Karen of Hawthorne, FL; one daughter, Elizabeth Allen Myers and husband Shawn of Daniel Island; five grandchildren, Allen and Emily Myers, and Tyler, Clayton, and Kiersten Shaw; one sister, Mary Catharine Shaw Williams and husband Dr. Barney L. Williams of Sumter. Graveside services will be at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Mark Durrett and Rev. Mike McGehee officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to SPCA of Sumter, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, S.C. Chapter, 107 Westpark Blvd., Suite 150, Columbia, SC 29210, First Presbyterian Church, Women of the Church, 9 W. Dear Brenda,

I just learned of John's death from Frank Cox. John was introduced to us at DKA by Tom Bowen, another friend and fraternity brother at Clemson.

John was a good man and will be missed by all. We were all blessed to have had him as a friend.

Brenda,
I am so saden to hear of John's passing. He and I attended Edmunds as well as Clemson togheher. John was a caring Vet who took care of all of my mothers pets for a long number of years. He will be missed in the Sumter Community and as well as a friend.

John Shaw was a fine person and had been my friend for my entire life. I always have pleasant thoughts when I think of John. I deeply regret that I will not be able to attend his funeral as I am in Florida staying with a friend at the Mayo Clinic this week. John was my first boyfriend in the 3rd grade. We were neighbors during all of our childhood and I loved him. He was a wonderful person and he will be missed terriby by all of us. My prayers are with Brenda and the family.
