John Mizzell Obituary

John Harold Mizzell ST. GEORGE - John Harold Mizzell, 72, of 109 Minus Street, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 18, 2010, at his residence. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 21, 2010, at the Harleyville Southern Methodist Church with the Reverends John Hucks, Sr., Joey Branch and Larry Sprague officiating. Burial will follow in the Harleyville Southern Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors by US Air Force. Pallbearers will be Sho'en O'Quinn, Barry Mizzell, Chris Mizzell, Gary Metts, Mike Metts, Mack O'Quinn, Jr., Larry Brown, LeGrande Fender and Marion Mizzell. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at BRYANT FUNERAL HOME, ST. GEORGE. Harold was born on December 7, 1937, a son of the late John Jay and Sarah Bowman Mizzell. He was a graduate of St. George High School and was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War and Cuban Conflict. He received an Electrical Engineering Degree from Trident Technical College and was a Shift Supervisor Shop 967 with the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Harold was a member of the American Legion Post 105, St. George Lions Club, Dorchester Senior Board Member, former American Legion Baseball Coach and Manager, former Chairman of the Board at Mims Academy where he was active in both the school and athletic programs. He was an avid Gamecock fan and a member of the Gamecock Club. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Diana Lodwick Mizzell, second wife Donna Pence Mizzell and his son Bruce Anthony Mizzell. Surviving are his wife, Helen Jeanette Mizzell; daughters, Teresa M. Hatchell, and Sharon (Frank) Peal, both of St. George, Debbie (Jimmy) Chinners, Blythewood, Jennifer (Kelly) Metts, Charleston, Mack (Lisa) O'Quinn, Jr. and Sissy (Larry) Brown, both of Walterboro; grandchildren, Lance (Kristen) Hatchell, Johnathan Hatchell, Jay Hatchell, Kacey (Patrick) Agius, Courtney Snyder, Karin (Aubrey) Allen, Travis (Danielle) Peal, Robbie Peal, Sara (Matt) Pope, Nick Chinners, Lana Chinners, McKenna Mizzell, Chase Mizzell, Devin Metts, Sho'en O'Quinn, Tyler O'Quinn, Dusty O'Quinn and Alexis O'Quinn; great grandchildren, Kaydance Hatchell, Pacey and Kyra Agius, Mitchell and Brennan Allen, Blake and Liam Peal and Brinley Pope; brothers, Dennis (Carolyn) Mizzell,and Charles (Frankie) Mizzell, both of Harleyville; sisters-in-law, Frances Metts, Shirley (Talmadge) Claxton, and Kitty (Wayne) Foskey.
