John Hipp Obituary

A great friend, fellow chaplain and golfing buddy. I will miss him. May he go rest high on that mountain.

We were so saddened to hear of John's passing as we listened to the St. John's live streamed service yesterday. Dr. Tim McClendon shared this with us. You and John were very special to our family as you served St. John's in Aiken. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

It was with deep regret that I learned of the passing of John. He was my District Superintendent but more importantly a true friend. We came to know each other well and I found him to be a kind and decent man of great character.
I shall always remember the Sunday he served as guest preached at the church to which I was appointed. I'll also remember the knowledge he shared about ministry, life, and golf.
May God's presence be with you and your family in the days ahead.

We feel privileged to call John our dear friend, family minister and brother in Christ. From our first boat trip with Chapin UMC friends, through your many years at Chapin UMC, oyster roasts, deep friendship, being at Haley's and our family's side throughout her heart surgery and praying over her for recovery and being with Drew and Jennifer at their wedding, we feel very honored to have had that relationship.

John , myself and Sam Lewis had great times playing golf at Dunes West, then a special hotdog after. We had just reunited with John a month or so ago and hoped to see each other again next year. Dear Carol, I am so sorry for your loss. I have been praying for you and your family. Rev. Hipp was so dear to me. I didn't know him before he became my D.S. We connected immediately. He was such a kind and compassionate person, I will truly miss him. When my husband had surgery he drove from Florence to Charleston and visited with us after his surgery. He was a wonderful pastor to me during his tenure. Please know that I will continue to pray for all of you.

I came to know John at SMC and later as fellow guardsmen. He was strong and stellar in every way. He will be missed. So sorry for your loss.

He meant so much to me and the members of Manning UMC as we went through some trying times when he was District Superintendent of the Florence District. He was so kind to call me after my husband Fin's sudden death. Carol, I am thinking of you and your children as I remember John with gratitude. He was a welcoming presence in my move to Chapin and a stalwart support as we worked together to offer an early morning worship service at Chapin UMC.The seeds he planted in Timothy's Garden have borne much fruit! It was an extra blessing to find John again in my sister's church home at Bethel--twice blessed! I am praying that you and your family feel all the love that surrounds you--blessings received and shared.

Reverend Hipp was my paster Growing up at Adnah UMC. He spent a lot of time with my age group ( 15 ). He was really a great person. He meant a lot to my family. We will keep the Hipp family in our thoughts and Prayers Brian Giles

Reverend Hipp was such a great spirit to have around our group of Wofford girls! We enjoyed many things, including our school break to Conway when he was serving there. I was lucky enough to do marriage counseling with him and have him officiate my wedding 13 years ago! He was a special man and will be truly missed by so many! John officiated my wedding 25 years ago on October 7,1995. He was a wonderful pastor and beloved by the Wagener UMC and the community. Carol, Mom and I send you our prayers and condolences. John and you hold a very special place in our hearts.

Carol and family I am sorry to hear of John's passing. I served with John in the SCARNG for over 20 years. We became good friends when he was our chaplain in the 3rd Battalion 178th Field Artillery. That friendship has lasted to this day. He served his country with honor and distinction. My prayers go out to the family.

To the family of the late John Wesley Hipp. I was very sorrowed to hear of Reverend Hipp passing. There are people in our lives who are so genuinely kindhearted. Rev. Hipp gave me my first assignment at St. Luke UMC. I will always be very grateful for him given me the opportunity to be a part of the Florence District. Johnny was one year ahead of me in the York Schools. We were in hs and jhs band together. I also knew Johnny through Scouts and MYF activities. Though we had not seen each other in many years, Johnny was one of the nicest guys I ever knew. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.P Johnny was a sweet soul!

I am shocked to hear of his death. I was proud to serve in the SCARNG with John. He was my boss when he was Joint Forces HQ chaplain but he was always my friend. We saw a few movies together in the off duty time at Guard conferences. Although I have only seen him a couple of times in the last two years I am saddened that I will not see him in this life again. Ruth and I have the family in our prayers
