John Dalti Obituary

John Joseph Dalti CHARLESTON - John Joseph Dalti, 63, husband of Peggy Sirisky of Charleston, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. The relatives and friends of John and Peggy are invited to attend his Memorial Service 7:00 PM Friday, April 12, 2024, at the James A. McAlister Chapel, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. John was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, on April 12, 1960. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Matt Anthony; his parents, John and Joann Dalti; his beloved sister, Donna Gallant; and brother, Thomas Dalti. John is survived by his wife, Peggy Sirisky; his previous wife, Melva Church; sons, John Dalti II (Anna) of Denver CO, Ross Dalti (Jordan) of Maryland; Stepchildren, Samuel (Whitney) Engel, Daniel (Sarah Grace) Engel and Madison Sirisky. John was a loving Papa and will be missed by grandchildren, Magnolia, Drayton and Boone, Mae, Quinn, Ace, and Charlie. Raised in Rhode Island, John married Melva Church and had two sons. He worked and ran the family liquor store, then made a career change to law enforcement. He was very proud of his new law enforcement career, serving the towns of Woonsocket, Smithfield at Bryant college as a police officer, and later an EMT. Leaving Rhode Island with his family, he moved to Summerville, taking a position as a Public Safety Officer for MUSC Department of Public Safety from 2007-2013. He later served in the Parking Management Department until he was no longer able to work. During his off hours he could be found cutting flowers and delivering for Peggy at The Flower Cottage. John shared and taught the skills of his many passions of hunting, shooting sports, skiing, ice hockey, and music, especially the good ol' Grateful Dead with his sons. John married Peggy Sirisky and became a beloved member of her Charleston Family. Margie Sirisky was his Charleston "Momma". Peggy's brothers, sister and friends took John in as one of their own, working with and enjoying many fun times and acts of kindness over the years. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, serving many years as an adorer in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. He was a proud member of The Elks Lodge #242. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on John's behalf to Campfires of Hope, an organization that provides epic experiences for adults with cancer (https://www.epicexperience.org/campfires-of-hope/). Arrangements by James A. McAlister, (843) 766-1365.

The Colonel, as we called him, was already a legend as a Public Safety Officer at MUSC. He later came to Parking Management at MUSC, where I met and got to know him. Rest in peace my friend and God bless all family and those who loved him. And remember, Every silver lining's got a Touch of grey...

It is with the utmost sorry to learn of John's passing. I loved working along side him. We shared and laughed at many of life's funny moments. He even shared his hunting results with me without my prodding him to do so. God, please grant mercy upon his soul and peaceful understanding amongst his dear family.

Too young! Another fine human being taken by the C word too young. Wish I got to see him more in our later years but our youth days were fun including our shared love of “The Dead”. The Dalti and Shaw boys sure liked our Grateful Dead. Hope John is “dancing in the streets” of heaven.
My heart goes out to his family

Peggy and Family, I am sorry to learn of John's loss. I enjoyed his smile and laughter when I teased him about his "honey-do" list of delivering flowers to the church and/or school. Take care, my friends, and may John rest in peace as the choir of angels sing upon his heavenly arrival.

First, my deepest sympathies to Peggy, John Jr., Ross, Samuel, Daniel and Madison. I cannot imagine the sense of loss you must all be feeling, but I am grateful you were all there to help and support my friend while he fought valiantly to choose life despite the odds.

For me, you don’t have friends like the friends you had when you are in high school. They are woven into the fiber of who you are and what you become. And while I’ll remember the great times we shared in our youth and the countless Dead shows he had on tape, it is his qualities of common decency and humility, traits that he absorbed from his father, Joe, that I’ll remember the most. And while I’ll miss my dear friend, I consider myself lucky and privileged to have known him and that he was a big part of my life during my wonder years.

John was my cousin my marriage, but my family by grace. He was such an amazing gentleman, always there with a smile, and a positive word, a hug from his heart, and love from his soul. He embraced our family , and was truly a part of us. He worked tirelessly, to make sure every family event was perfect.
Even going through his health struggles, he never complained, but only lifted others up, with his unwavering positive attitude. I always admired him for that. John never made it about Him, he made it about others that were celebrated.
What a legacy he leaves, that a positive attitude. And eternal love for others, does transcend.
We remember him for the positive mark he made on our lives, and his memory, will motivate us to always be kind to others, as he was.
We miss you u John, but you lived a life that mattered to those who knew you, and to those you touched , who were many.
We love you, and your place on this earth will never be replaced.
Cheers to you in Heaven, as we know the Holy Father holds you in his hands.
Missing you always,
Shea Sirisky Cianciolo
