John Bresnan Obituary

John Joseph Bresnan ASHVILLE, NC - John Joseph Bresnan's journey ended on January 24, 2023, in Asheville, North Carolina, at the age of 74. He was born on April 14, 1948, in New York, New York, to John and Kathleen Bresnan, but spent much of his childhood in Stamford, Connecticut. After graduating from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, John joined Chase Manhattan Bank's first credit training program (Chase Credit Class 1) in New York City. He would go on to spend 25 years on Wall Street, including 13 years with Lehman Brothers as Managing Director responsible for credit. In the spring of 1995, John was recruited by First Union Bank in Charlotte, North Carolina, as their new Managing Director, Head of Global Markets Capital Management. First Union Bank would later merge with Wachovia Corporation, and John would remain with Wachovia until 2009. In 2009, he was hired by The Carlyle Group as Chief Risk Officer for their Investment Grade Opportunity division and Senior Adviser to their Financial Services group. John retired in 2012, but remained on the board of two regional banks for several years. When not on the golf course, John enjoyed spending his free time with family and friends. He also developed a passion for collecting antiques and would never miss a chance to bid on a "deal" at the auction houses. Real estate was another of John's interests, and he was a keen property investor. During his lifetime, John has lived in New York, NY, Darien, Westport and Southport, CT, Charlotte, NC, Charleston and Kiawah Island, SC, Key West, FL, Doonbeg, Ireland, and Asheville, NC. John is survived by his wife, Julie; his son, Brian Bresnan; his daughters, Brooke and Blaire Bresnan; his brother, Dennis Bresnan; his grandson, Justin Bresnan; and his dogs, Rolf, Millie, and Pippa. John will be sorely missed. He was truly one of a kind. I'm so sorry for your loss.

He will always have a place in my heart, as a extremely kind and loving person.

I really wish that I had some kind of comforting words, but everything is coming up as drivel.

Just know that I really did appreciate the time that I had in your family's life and that you let me be apart of it.

He will definitely be missed. It's with a heavy heart that that I'll retire this evening.

He's was an amazing person, and lucky to have you all.

Dear Julie, Brian, Brooke and Blaire,
Sincere condolences to all of you and the Bresnan family on John´s passing.
I have great memories, Julie, of yourself and John at Doonbeg over many years. His droll sense of humour was second to none, his appreciation of a good cigar and his love of Ireland stand out for me. I also remember a wedding dress that took up residence at Doonbeg in your former suite for some years!! John was a wonderful man and the world will be a little lonelier without him.
With love to you all.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
