Jeffrey Woodard Obituary

Jeffrey Jason Woodard of Charleston, SC, passed away on August 31, 2025. He grew up in Niceville, FL and started his water journey with an early love of windsurfing and sailing.

Jeff graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering and had a successful career in a variety of roles within the field of information technology. While at GT, he discovered a passion for crew and rowed in the varsity lightweight 8 boat.

He was pursuing an Executive MBA at the College of Charleston at the time of his death.

Jeff continued his drive to compete in water sports by sailing in multiple World, North American and National Championships in several different racing fleets. He also became a US Sailing certified Umpire and held the role of Sailing Chair at the James Island Yacht Club. Jeff was an avid scuba diver with dive master certifications; he enjoyed exploring reefs around the Caribbean and Florida Keys.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Amy, and their three dogs. He is also survived by his parents, Richard and Billie Woodard; his brother, Justin (wife Stephanie) Woodard; his sister, Jaimie (husband Dustin) Crawley; and nieces, Riley, Ava, Caden, and Ellis.

Donations in memory of Jeff can be made to the James Island Yacht Club Youth Sailing Program by emailing [email protected] or to the I.CARE Islamorada Conservation and Restoration Education center to help save the Florida Keys reefs at https://icareaboutcoral.org.

Jeff was one of the few people I kept in contact with after college. He was entirely responsible for getting me into road biking as a way of maintaining fitness off the water - an activity I enjoyed for many years. His sense of humor was singular, his energy and drive were infectious, and I always enjoyed being around him.

Been a pleasure for the past 30+ years going through a GaTech EE curriculum, Northern Telecom co-op, teaching you to drive in snow & letting you stay at my parents when the FL native plus 2W drive vehicle on Atlanta ice needed a backup plan - Atlanta, Charleston and San Francisco socials & laughs (the pic posted I think I lost a lung laughing so hard that night at your pad in CHS)! Thanks for teaching me to bike, introducing me to the simultaneous pain & joys of erg workouts and having a someone to call to talk shop when needed. When I am out on the water, solving a hard engineering problem or doing a intense aerobic workout, I know you'll be there Jeff - missing you already. Rest in peace.

Jeff was very considerate and kind to our family. He was a good man. I'm saddened to learn he is no longer with us. God bless him and Amy. I'm glad we knew him.

I met Jeff through the College of Charleston EMBA program in 2025 and only knew him for 7 months. I loved his stories of sailing. I will remember him as an adventurous, intelligent man who loved Amy very much.
