I am deeply saddened by this. I moved out of the East Cooper area four years ago, and lost touch with him...i have known him for years...I am crying now. I can not believe that such a vibrabt soul has been taken way before time..My deepest heartfelt sympathy to his wife and children...

Have been traveling in Europe this summer and just learned the tragic news of Jeff's untimely passing. I got to know Jeff these last few years through his interest in maritime law and, more particularly, his membership in the Francis Drake Admiralty Inn of Court at the Charleston School of Law. He possessed not only a keen and inquiring legal mind, but a wonderfully engaging personality to go along with it, a rare combination in our profession. We have an Inn of Court dinner scheduled for September 5, and we will take that opportunity to raise a glass to Jeff's memory. Our sincere condolences and prayers go out to his family.

Jeff was a student and advisee of mine at the College of Charleston years ago. He did a wonderful research project on John Muir. We once took him to the hospital after he hurt his leg skiing in West Virginia. I am very sorry I did not get a chance to catch up with him in recent years. He was a first rate young man when I knew him.

Dear Michelle and Family,
I was so sad to hear of Jeff's premature passing. You are in my thoughts. I will never forget the time he took my parents and their friends for a nice sail on his boat in the harbor-lots of laughs! I am so glad I was able to catch up with him recently before heading out west for the summer. His spirit will never be forgotten!

I knew Jeff from the College of Charleston. He was a dear friend and we made many memories together. Jeff will dearly missed.

And when time allowed you were always ready to plunge in with a twinkle in your eye. The answers never mattered as much as the questions. And "why" was never so much an inquiry as an invitation.

We were saddened to hear of Jeffrey's untimely death. My sisters, brother and I attended Barnwell Baptist Church as children where "Butch" and Franklin would come in the summer to help on the farm.

Jeff Barnwell was a kind & caring soul. I was privileged to know him through my son & daughter, Clif & Brooke Hawkins. Clif & Jeff shared a love of surfing; Brooke & Jeff shared the love of life. One of the last times I saw Jeff was
at Brooke's funeral. Clif asked me to please stand in for him & Brooke's spirit at the celebration of Jeff's life. I will be there.

Just a few conversations at yoga classes about his wonderful family was enough for me to feel the loss of Jeff's beautiful pure spirit. I admired how he moved through the world with grace, open and available. Most certainly an angel among us, I'm glad to have known him even a little. Sending love and light to his treasured family.

Very very saddened to learn of my friend Jeff's passing.

What a sad thing for Jeff to die so young. We knew him from Circular Church and although we now live in Texas part of the year, the church notified us of his passing. He lives on in those his life touched - and may all his family find God's comfort and grace as they live these difficult days and months.

Jeff always had a warm smile and a kind word to say. He genuinely cared about people and always wanted to know how you were doing. I remember being amazed at all the many careers he had and his zest for life. He was so proud of his boys! The world will miss such a wonderful person and my heart and condolences go out to his family.

Jeff had a warm heart and an uplifting smile. He was always upbeat, outgoing and loved to just sit and chat. Despite life's pressures he always made time to ask, "so whats going on with you," and he really wanted to know. I will remember him as a good friend, a confidante and tenacious advocate. My heart goes out to his family.

Jeff, you will be missed! My heart goes out to his family during this challenging time. What a shock to hear of his passing. I will always remember Jeff's questioning, analytic mind, his passion for surfing and music, his deep love for his three beautiful sons, and his dedication to his spiritual growth through kundalini yoga and meditation. In the years I practiced yoga with him, I never heard him say a negative word about anyone. Fly free, my friend, until we meet again.

Very sorry for evveryone's loss. Jeff dated my step-daughter, Laird, for a number of years. His father taught me at the Naval Hospital. We spent many a Thanksgiving and Christmas together. He was my atty. also. He will be deeply missed by many.
