Jean Hall Obituary

Jean Sandefur Hall Melbourne FL - Jean Sandefur Hall, 85, a resident of Melbourne, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in her home of 47 years. Jean was born in Macon, GA, on Oct. 25, 1931, daughter of John William Sandefur and Ruth Baumgartner Sandefur. She grew up in Charleston, SC, and married there on Thanksgiving Day in 1951. She moved to Melbourne in 1958. She is survived by her faithful husband of 65 years, Gerald "Jerry" Hall, 91; her daughter, Carole Tompkins; her granddaughter, Timalynn Matthews (W. Clay); great-grandchildren, Hall, Kamper, Helen, and Healey; and her beloved sister, Anita Sandefur Singletary. Jean was predeceased by her younger brother, Charles William Sandefur, Sr. At a very early age, Jean raised her sister from birth. Her mothering heart nurtured many more. Jean taught English at Eau Gallie High for 25 years. She was equally passionate about theatre, directing an award-winning team of high school actors. She sang, recorded an album, and played both piano and guitar. She was a skilled seamstress, and enjoyed quilting, knitting, and embroidering beautiful gifts for family and friends. Above all, her legacy rests in her faithful devotion to Jesus Christ, and her steadfast love and service to her family. Visitation will be held this Sunday, April 9, 2017, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., with a celebration of life to follow at Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home in Melbourne, FL. Graveside service at Carolina Memorial Park in North Charleston, SC, will be Thursday, April 13, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with a gathering to follow at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road. A memorial message may be sent to the family online at www.jhenrystuhr.com. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

Mrs Hall was the most admired and memorable teacher I had. She truly had a passion for teaching! I most enjoyed the Drame Club and her leadership and directing our club to success. I enjoyed the campfires she would have at her house as we rehearsed for our plays. You are a shining light in heaven!

I had Mrs. Hall for two classes. They must have been drama 1+2. I failed drama 1 but was already scheduled for drama 2. I asked her if she wanted me to go get the class switched and she said "No, you should stay. I was the co-lead in one of her smaller plays and loved it. Today I sing and speak before people with no fear.
Thanks Mrs. Hall, you helped light that fire!

Mrs. Hall was a favorite teacher who opened the world of drama and English in a way that no other teacher had done. She was creative, resourceful and she inspired you to go beyond the limits, to discover that you could achieve so much more. Our many field trips with her were a true adventure! She truly helped you find your potential. I enjoyed all my classes with her and working several years with the drama club.
My love and prayers go to her family for their loss.

Mrs Hall...Jean and I had a closeness that her students didn't know. She suffered with crohns disease and joined our support group. She well understood what it meant to be ill and keep on smiling. We had a meeting at the school on the day the Shuttle exploded that cold morning.
she made a lot of difference in Student attitude and motivation to try harder. Her Drama students did some great acting. Thank you Jean Hall.

Mrs. Hall brought to life many works of literature. I really enjoyed having her as a teacher at EGHS 1978 through 1980.

Mrs. Hall helped me get through high school. Being in Drama Club gave me something to look forward to every day. She also nurtured me, bringing me into her home, letting me help with her horses on her farm, and making me feel like part of the family. My deepest condolences to Jerry and Carol.
