Jean Martschink Buyer MONTICELLO, IN - Jean Martschink Buyer, age 82, born to Gustav Charles and Karen Larisey Martschink in Charleston, South Carolina November 19, 1932 died July 26, 2015 in Monticello, Indiana. Jean attended Ashley Hall and married John J. Buyer, D.D.S., Citadel Class of '50 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church December 27, 1950. Their children Karen B. Burkhardt, Kokomo, IN, Diane M. Buyer, D.D.S.(Timothy Yale), Indianapolis, John J. Buyer D.D.S.,M.P.H.,M.S. (Col USA D.C. Ret.), Citadel Class of 1979 (Christi) Blacksburg, VA, Former U.S. Congressman Steve Buyer, J.D. (Col. USAR Ret.), Citadel Class of 1980 (Joni) Carmel, IN, six grandchildren, Colleen Buyer, Ryan Buyer (Ashlyn), Joseph Buyer (Molly), Jeremy (Lauren) and Matthew Buyer a Jr. at the Citadel and three great-grandchildren survive. Her sister Barbara M. Mobley (Jack) and brother Gustav C. Martschink (Linda) also survive. Toby Burkhardt son-in-law preceded her. Jean M. Buyer dedicated 50 plus years to the American Legion Auxiliary, leading 69,000 women as the Indiana State Department President in 1997-98. The Governor presented her with the distinguished," Sagamore of the Wabash" for her volunteerism in support of Indiana's military personnel and their families. She was a partner of LaBoutique Des Huit chapeaux et Quarante (8 &40) Femmes Salon 135, the American War Mothers. Jean also served on the American Legion Auxiliary National Legislative Council. Jean was a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School teacher and community volunteer. She enjoyed playing Bridge, gardening, crafts, sewing, fishing, politics and people. Her philosophy was," strangers are friends I haven't met yet." There will be an American Legion Auxiliary Farewell Service at 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015 with reception following and private interment. Uncle John, Karen, Diane,Jack, Steve and families: We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Jean. We all have so many wonderful memories that will never be forgotten. Aunt Jean was one of those who helped to create these beautiful memories. You all are like family to us and we all know how hard losing a parent is. Know we love you all and are praying for you during this difficult time. Our type of friendshipfriendship doesn't happen very often. May you find peace in knowing your mom is with our heavenly Father and is suffering no more. God bless you all!
