Janice Smoak Godwin

Summerville - August 16, 1952 – February 26, 2026

"Well guys, I'm out can you believe this? Paul actually outlived me."

At 5:03 PM on February 26, 2026, Janice passed away surrounded by her family and friends. If she could have left us with one last comment, it probably would have been, "Guys, don't be sad. I'm going to see Jesus and my family duh."

Born in North Charleston, South Carolina, to the late Winston Smoak and Lola Jean Smith Smoak, Janice was spunky, determined, and never short on opinions. If you needed advice, all you had to do was ask. Most of her sentences started with "Oh honey," and she would tell you exactly what she thought.

She graduated from North Charleston High School in 1970. She loved the Lord and spoke of Him often. We know she is now reunited in heaven with her parents; her siblings Lola Jean, Myron, and Jennifer; and her grandson Chance. She is survived by her brother Ken and her husband, Carter Paul Godwin.

She was a proud mother to Douglas McCollum and Ashley Burbage and a loving grandmother to Kyle Burbage, the late Chance Burbage, Allison McCollum, Katie McCollum, Kipton McCollum, Kali Burbage, along with several bonus grandchildren she loved as her own. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren Kayson Burbage and Brantley Burbage to carry on her legacy.
