James W. Creech
Charleston - It is with a heavy heart that our family shares the news of the passing of James W Creech, on March 9, 2026 after an extended fight with cancer. He was 77 years old.
He was born and raised in Charleston, SC, and lived there his entire life, with a few brief exceptions. After graduating from James Island High School in 1966, he was the first of his family to go to college- attending the University of South Carolina on a Naval ROTC scholarship and graduated in 1971. It was there he met my mom, Lynn Anglin. They moved to Boulder, Colorado for a year or two in the mid-70's before returning home to SC. There he spent his career as an engineer for the Department of Defense and was proud to tell you about his work rebuilding the communication and radar systems around Valdez Alaska after the oil spill there.
Jim was open and caring and passionate. He was a huge Gamecock fan, a lover of history, the lowcountry, and boat rides on his pontoon boat. His home became affectionately known as "Creech's Creekside Resort" to many. It was a bright point of light to many, full of joy and music and tall drinks, and he made his friends feel like family. He was "Uncle Jimmie" to both family and friends' families.
He was Papou to grandchildren in Colorado, his niece Alexis's children as well as the children of Sara Dorwart in Pennsylvania. Jim is survived by some wonderful family - his son Michael (wife Sarah), and his grandchildren Carter and June in Colorado; his sisters Marie Waters and Susan Freeze in Charleston; his niece Alexis who was like another daughter to him, and her two children Eva and Scarlet; and Creeches and Waters and Casanos and Wickerts all over the lowcountry.
There will be a memorial service later in the Spring. We will share that information when we have it.
