James Carter Obituary

CARTER, James Mr. James A. Carter, age 81, husband of Lucille Goings Carter, of North Charleston, SC passed away in the early afternoon hours on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at a local hospital. Friends and family of Mr. James A. Carter are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11:00 am at New Covenant Church of God, 7363 Stall Road, North Charleston, SC. Burial will immediately follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family of Mr. Carter will be receiving guests at The New Covenant Church of God this evening, Friday, December 19, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Mr. James A. Carter was born on July 7, 1927 in Tarboro, NC, a son of the late Mr. Leon C. Carter and the late Mamie Fillingame. He was a truck driver in the Charleston area for 20 years and also a Terminal Manager with Schwerman Trucking for over 20 years. After retiring from the trucking business, he worked for Trident Security Company for 19 years. He was a member of the Ashley River Church of God in North Charleston. He loved his family and friends dearly. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Mrs. Lucille Goings Carter; two sons, James A. Carter, Jr. 'Jimmy', and his wife Twila, of Goose Creek, and Dennis Colton Carter, and his wife Tammy, of North Charleston; two daughters, Phyllis Cooper, and her husband George, of Simpsonville, SC, and Sandra Stone, and her husband Marshall "Jim," of Summerville; ten grandchildren, Angela Henderson, Theresa Allen, David Cooper, Brett Carter, Leslie Beckham, Dennis J. Carter, Laura Bishop, Kenny Stone, Liane Holden and Brandon Stone; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Flowers will be accepted at the funeral home or at The New Covenant Church of God or memorial contributions can be made in Mr. James A. Carter's memory to Ashley River Church of God, 8190 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website, www.carolinamemorial.com.
