James Brown Obituary

James Gary Brown, age 73, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Gary grew up in Buchanan, Georgia, and always considered Buchanan his home. He was the president of his class at Buchanan High School. Friends of his mention his love for fast cars, motorcycles, and playing sports, despite his physical limitations from polio as a young child.

Gary went on to obtain his masters degree from Georgia Tech and had an incredible career at Scientific Atlanta. He married and had two children whom he was so extremely proud of. In his later years, Gary enjoyed riding his three wheel Can Am motorcycle, hanging out with his dear friend Cary Calhoun, and building model cars.

Eventually, Gary moved to Charleston, SC, to be closer to his adult children and his grandchildren. Despite several medical complications, Gary never let his diagnoses define him and always seemed to find light in every situation.

Gary is survived by his children Sean Brown (and wife Jasmine Brown) and Meredith Kenyon (and husband Spencer Kenyon); his grandchildren Erica, James, Keller, Caiden, and Luke; and his siblings Austin and Skylar Brown. Gary is reunited in heaven with his mother Joy, his father Jim, his sister Sandra, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Gary never expressed interest in having a public service. Instead we ask his friends and family members to make a point to live in the moment. Schedule the trip, reach out to someone to mend a relationship, do that one thing you've always wanted to do. Don't wait.
