James Anderson Obituary

1935- 2011

James Anderson, a longtime resident of Santa Clarita passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 14, 2011.

Jim was born in Wisconsin and grew up on a farm with his parents and 10 siblings. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country during the Korean War. Jim was no stranger to hard work. After completing his service, he opened his own business in Southern California. He successfully operated So Cal Ford Tractor, with his wife Katie until he retired in 2002.

Jim was an excellent writer with a great sense of humor who was always writing speeches and telling stories for special occasions. He enjoyed golf, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Jim was a committed volunteer in his community. He was involved with his children's school PTA, Site Council, Golf Club and Homeowners Associations. His passion for sports and baseball inspired him to coach not only his daughter's softball team but eventually take over the management of the local high school girls high school team for several years. He also was dedicated to his grandchildren's sporting activities by always cheering from the sidelines.

Jim is survived by Katie, his wife of 38 years, his children Debbie, Jeff, Mike, Nancy, Kelly and Lisa and his seven grandchildren as well as one brother, John and his wife, Kay.

Services were held privately for his family at Eternal Valley's Veterans Garden on February 17th, 2011.

I first met Jim when we were teenagers and he was a Marine. He was a hard worker and had lots of friends Our prayer for the family is that they will think of the good times and find comfort in all the special memories.

I learned a lot from my dad. I think I got my smarts from him and my lack of hair. I looked up to him in so many ways. I still like to garden, and I love road trips especially to the mountains and National Parks. My son Adam is the lucky one here as I have already taken him on way better adventures than dad ever thought of. Maybe Adam will take his son around the world! We all hope our kids will be better than we are. I know my dad loved me but as a kid I wanted more affection, so I tell my son I love him and I hug him every day. He was a very good grampa to Adam and all his grandchildren. Adam can barely remember his grampa when he was big and strong so I show him pictures of them together. Dad didn't always like the choices I made but he tried to be supportive. I guess that's how he showed his love...

My earliest memory of dad was in our backyard. We were both on our hands and knees and he was showing me how to plant a seed. First, he said, dig in with both hands and lift out a bunch of dirt. Feel it, look at it, smell it. If it's lumpy and all dried out the little seed will not grow well. But if it's warm and soft and brown and smells good, that little seed will be so happy and will grow into something beautiful. I can still see his hands, so large and strong, showing me how to appreciate the wonders of nature. I must have been about three or four years old. While we were still pretty little, we went on a camping trip to Zion National Park. Dad took me and Jeffrey and Mikie for a trail hike up the side of a mountain. We stopped for a rest break and he leaned against the side of the trail and a rock came loose in his hand. He pulled it free and behind where the rock had been was a list of names, names of other people who had also found that same loose rock. I remember thinking, "Wow - This Man is a God...He Can Do Anything!" My dad accomplished alot in his life. And throughout his life he's shown me so many wonderful things, about nature, and about living a good life. He showed me how to have pride in what I did in my life by doing it himself - in his own life; how to care about people, how to be an honest businessman, how to treat employees, how to be a good friend. Dad had alot of good friends, mostly because he was one. I love my dad. Rest in Peace.

Jim was a fantastic brother in law. I will miss his quick wit and ready smile. He was a great bowling and golfing buddy, and he was such a smart man with ready advice if requested. Goodbye, but you will never ever be forgotten. You're in a better place, but we aren't.

My Dad was a great man - generous, funny, lively, loving and just the kind of guy people wanted to be around. God Bless him and may our fond memories of him stick around forever!!!

I only worked for Jim and Katie 14 years but Jim left a life time impression on me. After 6 months of my employment Jim wrote, (typed) me a nice note that stated "I was one of their finest up coming young employees"; than really made me feel special. By the way I still have that note. While other tractor owners were pocketing their scrap battery and steel slush fund money Jim was chartering luxurious bus's and took us "All" and spouses to Las Vegas. We had so much fun he took us again the following year.Oh, did I mention he paid for our rooms at the Hilton! I moved from the shop to parts to the sales department. I wasn't having a very good sales month and Jim knew I was really trying so when no one was around he gave me $500 and said "keep up the good work". Wow, how nice! Katie was always so even tempered I never saw her get angry and was "always" pleasant to be around. I can still hear her saying "Hi Love". Jim and Katie even had all of us employees and families to their Sand Canyon home for a barbeque and they provided fishing poles to fish in their lake. It was the first time my children caught a fish and to today they both still remember it; Kristen tells me the fish bit her toe. I asked Jim if he could go back in time if there was anything he would change? he said, "he would have spent more time with Debbie, Jeff and Mike". He told me he spent to much time away from them getting So-Cal up and going. I can go on and on just like it was yesterday; I really enjoyed being a So-Cal employee and friend of Jim's. Because of Katie Jim's angel, he was able to enjoy a long fulfilled happy life and he will be missed by everyone that knew him.
